Thread: Now that mounts are 'obselete', should we make them exclusive to CH, Ranger, and BE?

Well, I've never seen ANYONE that wasn't a CH, BE, or a Ranger, use a mount 2 months into the release of vehicles. So I was thinking... why not make them exclusive again? It would give a cool little incentive towards BE, CH, and Ranger, which really haven't gotten anything special for awhile. What do you all think?

It's an assumption on your part that mounts are obsolete. Granted, vehicles aremore prevalentin this environment, which is to be expected. However,I still see plenty of mounts on Starsider, both in the cities and in the wilderness. Personally, I don't think mounts should be exclusive to any profession. If you want to approach it from a monetary perspective, training and selling mounts is a good source of income for CHs.

No way, I make a lot of money on mounts and CL 10 pets. Plus, they are far from obsolete. THey are excellent for hunting and baby searching. They permit you to move around faster, but not too fast such that you zip by lairs before they spawn; I hate moving all around just so I can look back to see what was at the lair.

Just make specials usable from mounts or give some offense or defense modifiers while riding one and they will get used more often...

well lots of people other than rangers hunt. also i can definately say mounts aren't obsolete. every once in a while i a make up a batch of mounts with junk dna to sell on the bazaar for 5k a piece. i usually put about 12 up at a time. they are all gone within 12 hours.

NO. Horrible idea. This will be bad for everyone.
1. People like going for scenic rides sometimes.
2. People use these to get over hills faster.
3. People like to use these to hunt Nightsisters because you can just heal the animal
4. Major nerf to RPers. As an RPer myself, I use mounts a lot, as do many of my non-CH friends.

I would not agree that mounts are obsolete. Just because anumber of people might prefervehicles for the speed of travelling long distances doesn't mean no one at all likes mounts any more. I still use my mounts regularly and enjoy seeing new parts of the galaxy without speeding by so fast that things don't even spawn in time to check them out.
I make and sell an average of 5-10 mount creature deeds a day to new players and veteran players alike andam always busy training pets in the mount command. The players that I meetare genuinely pleased to have a creature to ride around on.Mount creatures add a nice element to roleplaying as well. It would be nice thoughif maybe as CH's we had the ability to have our mounts protect us and attack while we are riding them and be able touse their specials too.

- I would consider myself the biggest Mounts Dealer on Eclipse. At my start, I found it very odd that people wanted mounts to buy from me, aside from numerous requests for mounting and training. I have sold over 25 banthas so far, and I have made around 1.3 mil as a secondary income on my Banthas (they are good quality ones.)
- So I consider Mount selling a great second business; no vendors, you sell on the spot, and you make money if Bio Engineers sell you the pets for less. mix a little roleplaying in there, and your product sells. Why have I made so much off mounts? Well, there isn't a lot of competition in the market right now. I have accumulated funds from selling mounts to get a mantrigue screecher, and a Frenzied Graul.

I get an average of about 10 tells a night to train mounts on Bloodfin if i have my MCH tag up. Usually have Master Swords though due to wanting to get some things done...

I have a CL10 cupa that I use to ride around in cities. It is faster than foot, and easier to controll in cities like Coro. Plus lag isn't so bad when on one.
That and I look cool since no on else does it.

I think many people favor vehicles over mounts because they're faster, plus they don't slow down if you get attacked. Unless the Devs want to make mounts faster than vehicles (which would probably be bad from a realism perspective), some people will always favor vehicles because of the speed difference.
I think mounts are still attractive, but I would love to see more pros and cons for vehicles versus mounts. Right now, it's a pretty short list with "speed" being the sole deciding factor for many. In "Empire Strikes Back", we saw vehicles being affected by the cold. I think it'll probably be a long way before the Devs are able to even think about such functionality by long term it would be neat.
The other thing I was thinking about is some people here mention "obsolete", no market to sell to, etc. while others say they have a booming business. On the server where I am a Master Fencer instead of a MCH, the only reason I have a mount is because I know a CH that got it for me. If I didn't have that contact I wouldn't even know where to start to look to find a mount. Sure, there is an occasional BE on the vendor planetary map, but BE pets need training and finding a CH to hook up with in person can be challenging and perhaps not worth the effort? (I say that as a question mainly because I'm just thinking out loud)
The other challenge for both droids and pets is that people that aren't a CH or DE often don't have a clue what to do with pets or droids, how to command them, and their value.
In the end I guess for the sake of the original poster's question, I'm fine with leaving it so non-CH can have mounts. As they're limited to CL 10 and below, they certainly aren't a threat to us and I believe there is a market (that probably could be better via some changes) for mounts for at minimum roleplay purposes.
Neat discussion topic though!
