Thread: An Idea Made in Desperation..Opinions are Needed.

It is blatantly obvious that our profession now has no use of any kind. We are not effective at tanking for PvE anymore, and our pets are merely a 3-5 second distraction to our opponents in PvP. Though I cannot bear to give up my pets, and I wish for this profession to one day be resurrected, as it has been dead for a long, long time. But anyhow, I had a thought not long ago that was created out of desperation for this profession to have a purpose in PvP and PvE, but it is more for PvP in my eyes...

So here's what I was thinking: We don't really have any advantages over any other professions except that we can make giant silly monsters clap or stand on one foot or hop around..but we can ride creatures who would be tough if it weren't for the broken-ness of the game. So why not give us some other mounted bonuses, eh? Let me elaborate a little bit on what I mean, here...

We are supposed to be a combat profession, right? Well, we suck at combat, plain and simple. But what if we were to gain bonuses such as our mounts not slowing down when we enter combat? And how about a little bit of a damage/accuracy modifier for going up against an opponent on foot? And here's the big one: When mounted, our toon's stats and our mount's stats would 'bind' to a certain degree, determined by the level of Creature Handler. For instance, a mid-level CH would have his stats 'bound' with his mount by 50%. What I mean by this is that if the mount has 50% kinetic resistance or what-not, then 25% kinetic resistance would be added to the rider and mount. By 'bind', I mean they would no longer be two separate targets..rider and mount would unite and become one (think of it kind of as Cavalry). The rider could attack the opponent or the mount could attack the opponent, but never both at the same time. Special attacks still could not be used while mounted, but the benefit would be the 'binding' of defense between rider and mount, thebalancing factorbeing the lesser damage output that one could put out if they were to dismount and spam special attacks, assuming they have another combat profession. A PvP damage reduction vs. the Cavalryman would still exist, but would probably be less than 75%, since ultimately the Cavalryman could become quite the invincible person if they had a 12k HAM mount with massive resistances and such.

It was brought to my attention that if this kind of thing were to be implemented, people could master CH, buy an 80% kinetic composite set, and 'bind' with their mount, making them immune to kinetic damage and thus capable of tanking an infinite amount of krayts at once. To that, I propose that the resistance cap to kinetic and energy that exists in bio-engineering (they cap at 60%) be existent on the Cavalryman. So for instance, if you're an MCH with a mount who has 0% kinetic resistance and you go out and buy 80% kinetic composite, you and the mount would only have 60% kinetic resistance while 'bound'. I have yet to think of any other possible issues that could arise, hence why I'm asking for opinions and feedback, here.

So, lemme summarize this a little bit into a shorter dealy: A CH gets mounted bonuses to faster ground speed, higher defenses, and limited damage (limited in that one cannot spam their special attacks..critters also do not have any AP attacks, so if they were to attack, it would be the damage that their damage reading says they do..so nothing really changes there, and they already do crap damage anyhow). Rider and mount 'bind' to become one target, so one cannot target just the rider or just the mount. Resistance cap would be implemented to restrict a 'Cavalryman' from becoming just about invincible. PvP damage reduction vs. the 'Cavalryman' would exist, but would be less than 75% due to the large amount of HAM the 'Cavalryman' would have while bound to a 12k HAM mount.

I think that just about covers it...All opinions and feedback are welcome. Though I doubt the devs would everimplement something like this that could possibly make us viable combatants again

hmmmm

i find pets exceedingly useful in PVE. without pets i wouldnt be half as effective as i am now. with pets i dont have to wear armour in PVE. the choice is basically no pet or live with using a light AP weapon or a medium AP carbine or melee and devoting a great deal of time and money into armour and self healing. with pets i dont NEED to be buffed to be successful. i could use BE pets and devote skill points from CH to other things and only be a partial CH but i like being master.

in PVP having a rhoa kwi pack leader sic'd on you is no small thing especially since it does a KD and posture down with a proper macro every 1 second it will alternate specials. its defenses are no joke and the person spending time fighting it instead of me means they are taking damage and im not healing. if the person decides to fight me he has to suffer from being kited and the ongoing effects of a KD/posture down that do not appear to be on a timer. yeah a TKM can basically manhandle any pet but that is time spent not attacking me and taking huge hits in the process. but a pet with good special attacks cannot be ignored. going to try and find a pet with intimidate specials and see how effective that is.

im having several gurreck made from rhoa kwi pack leader DNA so i dont have to keep using my rare pet. i dont PVP all that much but the pets are a definate advantage when used properly.

but i rpetty much disagree with your entire premise. a 3200 CH with commando skills no longer dominates PVP and twin graul maulers no longer dominate PVE. big deal. because we dont dominate every other class with a glance and are not the current FOTM doesnt mean CH is totally useless.

a roha pack leader is a rare pet???

Damn I had 2 that I got rid of

as for PvE, sorry I diaagree there, Pets make good meat shields and will allow you to kill almost anything, but truthfully buffs and a good set of armor do the same thing as pets.

You must be PvP'ing against Novice Artisans.

I'm not trying to make CH dominant again, I'm proposing an idea that would make us viable again, because face it..we ARE useless. Anyone with a set of 80% kinetic composite armor and a set of crappy buffs has greater tanking power than two of our best kinetic tanks. And in PvP, unless you're facing someone who is unbuffed, unarmored, has no combat skills, or who lacks half a brain, your pets are going to be wasted. Period.

... We are not effective at tanking for PvE anymore...

??? I don't know what your trying to tank with but my pets can tank very well.I seriously question where you get this statement from.

We are semi-effective at PvE tanking, but a master of any melee profession (except perhaps the ever-gimped Pikemen) with a set of armor and buffs has more tanking power than six of our 60% kinetic/light armor PvE tanks.

Edit (Add-on): Also note my first paragraph. I see this more as a fix for our PvP capabilities than PvE.
