This broken game and it bugs make me furious! As a MCH since sept. 2003 there are days I want to throw my monitor out the window! However I still log almost everyday and still love to play the game. What kind of Voodoo does SOE use to keep me playing and paying for a broken game? I am even excited about JTL and we all expect problems with that.

As a recovering alcoholic I can confirm this. The problem usually with alcoholics lies somewhere with low self esteem. Feeling there is no hope, we keep drinking.
The comparison matches. Most of us who played EQ feel there is little hope with SOE. And since they are our only MMoRPG's we have played, they are also the only lifestyle we know.
There is also another comparison between alcoholics and people who refuse to leave SWG/EQ/SOE. We feel compelled to keep our friends. Recovering people cannot cohabitate or associate with other users. It draws us back in to the mix. We believe we can make another run.
Fortunately, for me, I have a strong will. I walk, talk and do what I want (Rowdy Roddy Piper quote).
The last comparison, is that there is hope, Quitting. The user can find help and friends in a new Program (double entendre intended). These friends become more valuable because they care. If you move on to a different game where someone else you know has established themselves you will find this coming home feeling. Especially if the program works. You will feel as though the old lifestyle has been lifted. This will cleanse frustrations and any fog that may cloud your mind.
I have yet to link up with Skypreacher in COH, but I know when I do we will have a blast. (BTW Sky I sent you an Email on Freedom). Just as I know that Blind will be a good friend when we get to WOW. There are others of you, much like my alcoholic friends, that I will dearly miss. Unfortunately your struggle must continue. I can empathize. For one year I wanted the game to work. SOE has shown me that they are not up for the task.
Let go and let God. For me as a user, this holds true in both cases. I had to let go of my addictions. In both cases addictions are replaced by other addictions; bars with AA and SWG with COH. Both new lifestyles are completely more rewarding.

Ok P9M glad to hear you over came you RL addictions, it is always good to emerge from the fog. However this is just a little tongue and check post about how many of us feel about the game. We love it and we hate it! It can be extremely frustrating but I realize as a serious gamer who has played many online games and a huge Starwars fan this is the only show in town, flawed or not. Although WoW is going to make me take a good close look. CoH does not interest me in the slightest played Lineage II their other game for 2 months found it boring. Was never really into the superhero thing. I loved Dungeon Siege so looking forward to DS2. Broke or not I will still be playing SWG it is not about an addiction or friends. Not about other games. It is about Starwars. I was 9 years old when Armstrong walked on the moon so space and science fiction has been a huge source of entertainment and inspiration. The irony is that many of us love the theme so much we will even tolerate developers short comings. Which brings me back to the Voodoo thing?

Ecco,
We sound much alike. Only you are much older (lol). I am 36. My first job I wanted to be was astronaut. Then my vision failed when I was 10. I was reading by six. One of the first books I read was on space/travel. I still have dreams of the Telestar satelite. With all the fancy mirrors or solar panels, it was the most awe inspiring thing to a 6 year old.
Then came Star Wars. God how it put me back into space. I knew then that since could not be a pilot that science fiction would keep me in the scheme of things. So I perfectly understand why you might remain, broken or not. I am not slamming anyone who remains, although from my perspective I really do question why?
What you have described is not SOE voodoo, but the magic Mr. Lucas put in many of our hearts. I try not to undermine that. Since this is an Icon to many of us, I refuse to see it destroyed by SOE failures.
It is really a matter of seperating dreams/idealism with reality. I want an Alfa Romeo Spider so bad I can taste it. If i needed a car, however, and my only choices were a broken Spider ora Metro, I will take the Metro. I can see myself driving the Spider with the top down. But what good would one do me if all I can do is have the top down in my own driveway.
I could go on about this, and I have elsewhere; I am sure I will again before my final days. The fact is that this is not the only game in town. It is definitely not the most functional. And it is actually the reverse of anything Star Wars. Small groups are used in the SW dream. Leia, Luke, Han and Chewie remain central figures. Two stupid droids for comedic relief. There was no mention from Han that he needed to go wait at the Starport for a buff to walk down the street. Continuity was the major selling point for this game. One year later all the continuity is out the window and now it is just another game. Given the choices between all the just another games, I simply am moving to one that works over one that does not.
