Ok , Just tell me , does CH suck in PvE ?

I am a master Scout and Master Ranger who is playing the TKA line to master aswell. I know that Scout/Ranger doesnt mean I am the dogs in PvP but I don't care about PvP right now.. So I dont need to supliment my TKA with some other combat class ( im more into the playing than the player killing )

I need something to tank up damage for me and I worked out that I should have roughly enough points to get one full tree on CH after mastering TK/Scout/Ranger.. But is it worth it ?

I know I will pretty much be able to hunt solo, but want a companion along for the ride, or a couple of them preferably.. But if you CH guys think its a bad idea I suppose I can , erm.. Maybe point the points on... Erm.. Ok, I will think and you tell me if its worth it, im pretty much stuck with CH/BE/SL from what I remeber of last night and so far I unlocked CH, Im not unlocking novice skills as that will reduce the ammount of blocks I can unlock so elite professions are my only choice.

Thanks

One branch in CH will mean you can control up to CL 24. That's pretty low and I am not sure you would find the critters of that level good enough at "tanking up damage". The best bet in that area would be a BE pet I think, but still not sure if it would be what you are looking for.

If you want the skill for a companion though, and less of a tank, it's good for that.

A fully buffed TKA makes a better tank now than a CH pet does

The advantages a TKM has are:

Requires less healing

Doesn't auto store during a fight

Doesn't run all over the place

Kills faster

Doesn't say every 30 seconds "TKM <hungry>"

OK, let's do a rating scale approach to this question, where

1=gnort

10=krayt dragon

An MCH is worthwhile to provide tanks up to about 6.5 on this scale now. Beyond that, you need a PC tank, as Callid indicates, or more than one MCH and a MCM to lob AOE stim-Cs into the scrum, along with a lot of pet stims to heal the mind damage that the MCM can't reach.

The only problem with TKM is that it might suffer LD in the middle of a fight, but how is that different from your GSH or BE uberbeast autostoring?

CH is still very useful against low to mid level mobs, and CL 24 is an adequate tank until you get up to about the 4.5 level, assuming you can stim the beast up during the fight and between fights. My savage humbaba tanks his own, with my help with an FWGand some stims quite nicely.

However, the days when a couple of graul maulers could keep a krayt entertained while you pour bleed shots on it are long gone.

Thanks for the advice everyone, with master ranger im a little limited to the sp I can assign. But its a personal choice, as is TKM.

Looks like CH is now too, I'm not a PvP head like I said so that 'fluffy TKA' and his dog will be doing the rounds on a few planets soon. 24CL is high enough for my needs im sure hopefully all the bad things I read about the CH NERF won't even show up...

I play the game to play really, a welcome distraction from reality so I'm not into making an 'ubertemplate' for my guy really. Just want him to be cool.. heheh.

Thanks again!
