Thread: Discussion: Would the Original Creature Handler be unbalanced today?

I guess i'm thinking more from a pvp balancing standpoint rather than a pve balancing standpoint. (rifleman can solo anything in the game with /concealshot -- so the devs can't be THAT worried about pve balance)

For those of you not familiar with the abilities of the original creature handler, the only thing that limited our power was the number of pets we could control. A novice CH could control a Rancor--a master could control 3. Heh I got master the day before the Great August CH Nerf, and enjoyed having 3 pre nerf webmasters out for a while.

My question is this:

with...

heavy weapons working properly now (they didn't at the original nerf),

crafters actually being able to produce good armor (they couldn't at the time of the original nerf),

Doctor buffs being the norm not the exception (no one was ever buffed around the time of the original nerf), and

advanced defense/offense stacking templates (that no one had figured out at the time of the original nerf) --

would the original 3 rancor at master creature handler really be that unbalanced?

i have to agree with you, back in the day when people actually had mastered creature handler, everyone else was pretty much still novices and we got nerfed for advancing faster than anyone else, maybe having 3 rancors would be a bit much, but creatures need to be as powerful as they used to be, doing their full damage in pvp, especially since they take full damage now when we got nerfed back then they wernt thinking of our future they wanted a fix now even if it crippled us later on

No we wouldnt, esp when a master swordsman dueled my Barkmite burrower queen, and incapped it in 3 hits.

I never had 3 rancors though, i used to go for the unbeatable spider/beetle combo.

Nah, instead of taking 5 seconds ot kill one rancor, youd take 15 to kill 3.... not much difference! Plus I think having 3 pet rancors is stupid.

Creatures need to be harder, Rancors and Krayts were the most feared creatures in the Star Wars Galaxies? Who fears them? no one! its just more xp! They are so ridicuously easy to kill....

Actually, in PvP we weren't ever overpowered. People only thought that because they tried to fight the pets instead of the master. But no, the MCH from then is not overpowered compared to the other classes of today. When I see a TKA wipe out a pack of ancient bull rancors(better than our best pet)in under a minute while hardly taking a scratch, I can't help but ask myself why we were ever considered overpowered in the first place.

that you would do that with THAT animal, requires me to castrate you with a rusty box cutter.

now would you like it slow and painful, or quick and VERY painful?

lol its still on 99% besides it was the best tank in the game and it lasted all of about 3 seconds. So no we arn't over powered. Also this is the same pet i used to have soloing dark troopers. it could take 2 on at once and hardly take a scratch. This is without me helping. Then a player incaps it in 3-4 secs

Sure we would be unbalanced but in the wrong direction! We are definately a much weaker profession now. The best thing that can happen now is that they fix our pets for PvP, until then we will continue to be weak.

If by original you mean pre-PvP damage reduction, then yes, CH would be overpowered. 3 rancors+ a combat profession, that's a lot of shtuff... BUT, with the PvP damage reduction, no number of rancors is really overpowered, since they aren't dealing much damage to speak of anyway.

I like cheese.
