Thread: Is there a planet by planet listing of tameable creatures

I was just wondering. Being new to SWG and creature handling, i'm finding it hard to find creatures to tame. I've been able to tame a Cupa CL10 and i've beengrowing it by using it as assist on missions, but since i'm a TKA im CL 21 and the leveling is very slow. I'm looking to find a creature to tame that is in my level range. I'm still just a novice CH and have about 40000 CH xp. Tatooine has ceatures that are too low in level or too high, nothing in the mid range. Are BE pets useable in combat and do they give CH xp if used in combat? I've seen several creatures above level 30 for sale and was wondering about that? If I use a level 34 BE pet, and i'm CL21 would I get CH experience? I've been running missions in my level range and choosing creature lairs but not one of them has had a baby to tame.

I'm just looking for some post CU advice because a lot of the guides are written pre cu. For example /peace doesn't work to get out of combat but it's listed in a process to tap lairs and then type /peace to stop attacking the lair so that it will produce new spawns. I haven't found a way to exit combat and if there is what is it?

This is from a soloers perspective because I don't like to take the time to group because I like to log and quit on my time not others. Groups tend to force one into time frames that are rarely convenient. I don't mind a grind but I would like a more balanced grind by using a correct level pet.

Incidently, if I were just to grind TKA, that goes extremely fast to my surprise. I can kill fast and efficient and take out missions in less than 5 minutes not including drive time, of course. But, I always call my pet and let the little guy destoy the lair for the CH experience but when your running level 21 missions, your level 10 cupo is barely denting the lair and barely getting any damage in on the spawns so the CH experience is barely noticeable.

Anyways, thanks for any advice.

Hang in there :-)

Yes you can use BE pets and yes they give CH exp.

You cannot use that level pet yet. The taming level is dtermined by your Creature handling level (max lvl of pets, check your CTRL-S skillsbox - at novice CH you are +2, which means 10+2 , and not 10+12). Your max therefore is CL12 pets that you can control. Additionally pets that you use when grouped take your CL on, and get xp accordingly. So if you are CL21 and send a CL8 bantha to attack a lvl 10 creature it will get max xp. However if you group with it. you will make it essentially a lvl 21 as well, and letting it kill a lvl 10 will result in 1xp point.

Hope this was a useful answer.

Thanks for all the answers. So, CL doesn't matter when taking into consideration taming, right? I'm CL22 but i'm still novice CH, so I can't tame CL24 pets? Just wanted some clarification on this. Does the +2 at novice add to my CL or does it add to 10 by default? Thanks again for the replies.

Ok, I've got the CL stuff figured out. I have another couple of questions.

At Novice CH when I call a pet, is it automatically grouped?

When a pet is grouped, you say it's treated as a group member that is equivalent in level to my CL? Does this mean that it's attack power increases and that the creature kill experience gets evenly divided between my TKA xp and my CH xp? The reason I ask is because currently, at Novice CH, when I fight along side my CL10 pet,I get200 CHxp, at most, of the almost 1700 xp i'm getting per kill on a CL 25 mission.

I'm still working toward getting my first box of CH beyond novice and I was wondering which branch would be the best branch to start out with? I was thinking 0-0-0-1, for the multiple pet thing.

when you hit a target and your creature hits a target, the xp is split between your combat xp and ch xp. to maximize your ch xp, get in a group and dont attack at all, just use your pet and have him attack as many of the targets you can. the pet only needs to hit them target once to get full xp once your group mates kill it.

No, that's the point of teaching your pet the Group command. You'll have to tell it to group, provided it's been trained to group.

Grouping scales a player's, and yes a pet's, combat rating versus their opponent. Against an even /con (equal level) adversary, the combat numbers are unchanged. Against lower levels, the numbers reflect about a 10% change per level of difference in your favor. Against higher level adversaries, it's about a 10% change in numbers per level of difference in favor of your adversary. Experience is likewise scaled from a max value equal to your level down to 1 xp for something too low for you.

Yes, your experience will be split up between each type of weapon you use as well as what healing you do.

Considering how things work now, for the most versatility in levelling up both you and your pets, I'd suggest heading toward that Group command first.

Just got that first box in group pets, 0-0-0-1. It's wonderful now, experience is much better. I'm not looking for a quick grind, just a half-way decent grind. Grouping doesn't interest me. I would say that for soloing, CH and TKA are a great combo. As long as you have the patience to get through the early boxes, the later boxes come way easier, from what i've been experiencing. Unlike games like EQ and EQ2 where they hand you the first 20 levels or so, this game ramps up the experience as you level.

I have one more question concerning a strange quirk. I took a level 7 creature outside of a tatooine town, Moss Entha I believe, and I had it attack low level creatures by itself. The first creature, a level 4 wort, it got 389 xp. The second creature, a level 4 wort, it got 1 xp. I was puzzled by this so I had it attack a level 1 creature, it got 289 xp. Then I had it attack a level 1 creature of the same type again, got 1 xp. I tested this over and over with creatures between 1 and 5 and sometimes I got 1 xp and sometime regular xp. What's the deal? I'm not attacking and the pet wasn't grouped (this was before I had my first box). So, is this a bug or is there a secret to it?

Well if you can get into a Spin group and you have your pet then the best route would be to get a pet with area attacks and then send the pet in after the lair just about 100% sure fire way to quickyl level CH. Guildie reground CH in two days, on two hunting trips of 3 hours each. Oiy talk about a quick grind.

That's just a display bug. I'm pretty sure it's harmless and you & your pet are getting the appropriate amount of experience. You can always double check your actual xp totals (Ctrl-S for your and Datapad for your pet's) to see how much they are actually raising. There is another xp bug though that you might have to keep an eye on... sometimes the pet will stop gaining xp (in the datapad) altogether. In that case, storing the pet and calling it again usually fixes it.
