Thread: We need new mounts

The creature I want mounted the most is a Ronto. We all seen the Jawa in a New Hope with the mounted Ronto so why can't we mount them? Next we need a Tusk Cat mount, we have Tusk Cat Rider NPCs yet we cannot mount them. Blurrgs and Kwi are just asking to be rode, their body shape is perfect for throwing on a saddle. Kliknik also have a body that looks made for riding. Gualama and Fambaa would also make great mounts and for MCH only I think a Rancor and Graul backpack type mounting would be cool.

Anyone have anything else to add?

sure
What is the point of new mounts (even though the ronto was supposed to be a mount) when less than 1% of the SWG universe uses them???

Give us a reason to pull our mounts out again and then I will gladly use it

The only advantages to having a mount is one, you save money on repair costs and 2, if you are hunting, then the lair will usually pop before you get to it, that way you don't miss anything.

Now, if they were to add new mounts, it would have to be something that would be benificial. For example, if you could put a saddle on a Large Reptilian flier, A lantern bird, or a Peeko-Peeko (not sure of the size of the Peeko-Peeko for) With these animals hovering over the land scape, they seem to move close to the speed of the land speeder at least, that would give us some use. Also, the cats keep up pretty well as well, so that would be another advantage.

Me personally, I ride my Humbuba all the time, but that's just me, because I hate having to pay 5k every day when I'm riding my swoop.

Yeah, making mounts more useful and increasing mount variety are very high-ranked on our list. I'm not sure how many development resources (particular art resources) are needed to make a new creature mountable, but at least giving the existing mount system (and mounted combat) more value seems extremely important as part of reworking the combat system.

I agree that mounts need to be more functional rather than introducing new ones first. As stated, however, the flying mount would be the one exception that I would make.

yeah flying mount would make me very happy

but I would still like some benefits to mounts, suggestions while I am at it

  1. Mounts always slow down when in combat, make it so mounts can walk at normal speed so we can "kite" aggros withough haveing to gallop.

  2. What are those saddlebags for??? Nudge nudge hint hint, Can you say storage????

  3. Be'ed stimulants for our mounts to run faster or gallop longer with a downer if necessary

  4. Specific mounted weapons both melee and ranged ( I can see the jousting toruneys now )

  5. The ability to have your mount attack (certain mounts like dewback which bites not mounts that use their legs for combat like kaddu) while you attack from on top of him, with understandable aim penalties.

anyone care to add more?

mount armor, the ability to fight from mounts, and mounts having the ability to haul loads would give them far more utility than they currently have.

That would be interesting to have a creature inventory kinda thing just like 10 or something for extra pet stims or food. There's no need for pet armor though since pets have there own resistance stats which is what armor gives players.

Use of specials while mounted. Give mounts the ability to attack while carrying a rider. And give them a 50 storage space. That would increase the use of mounts 100 fold, plus give CH's a little bit of business...

Mountarmour.

Giving mounts light armor, from the lesser dewback to the male brackaset. Make it need to be maintained, equiped by a CH made by an armour smith. I'm sure this could be a viable idea.

Mount storage space.

Tenitems in saddle bags. Utility factor. Gained when trained as a mount. (this might take away the from droid value so not sure on this one)

Multi person mounts - passengers

This could go along with the mounted turret idea. I'm sure you could strap a small blaster cannon onto the back of a male bracaset or mountain dewback. Just being able to carry a passenger would be neat too.

Mount attack while riding - speacials while riding

Why not? It's not like having a carrion spat peck at something is all that powerful to begin with and as a CH if you have a brackaset biting something who cares it has to slow down for combat anyway. Dismount: sure but why? All this means is that /gallop is a failsafe if things go a bit wrong. Plus if the thing your fighting has knockdown or posture change you could be knocked off. Once a hilltop gurreck knocked me off my speeder, it was cool.

Work Horses - the Rancor Hampster Wheel theory

I know there's not a real way to put this in but I'm just thinking that a rancor would be able to help build/farm/pull whatever it is if it was used as a work horse; very well due to it's size and strength. My best idea for this is hamster wheels, or rancor wheels if you can picture it hehe.A building or stucture powered by the rancor to produce something. Greater Plains Stalker should be able to help when you go fishing hehe.

Natural resources - milk, fur, etc

Like sheep having wool or cows having milk. I know some creatures are milkable, some must lay eggs. I'm talking about living resources not ones you collect once it's dead.

I've heard that you will never be able to use specials on mounts because it would allow for to much kiting. But can't I kite using a ranged weapon, and not use specials. Potentially I can take down any melee oponent, even if it takes a long time. Don't understand why that's any different than kiting with specials. While we're on it, can't say a master scout with only 0040 in marksman take say a rancor, if he uses terrain negotiation to kite? I think a better solution is to give mounts the ability to attack while being ridden, and multiply the attack by say 1.3. Extra attack because you're right on top of it to guide it. And while the mount is attacking, you can attack without your specials.

While I think armor would be interesting, I wonder if it would actually be overpowered. If a BE'd creature can have 60% kinetic and light armor, and you stick some kind of plating on it, it might be near invincible.

I'd love to have "turret" type things on mounts, only usable by a high level (if not master) ch. These turrets would be powerful, but would not allow you to use any type of defense that would require you to move (like dodge or block). While using these, the mount would not be able to move.

I also think pasengers would be a wonderful addition. It can't be thatdifficult to add a second saddle to some creatures. Possibly what would happen with passengers is the "driver" would not be able to attack, or maybe be able to but not specials, while the passenger had no control over the animal but could use specials.

Special weapons only usable while mounted would also be a nice addition. Things like lances or such would be a more realistic melee weapon while mounted than say fists. I don't know what kind of weapons there would be for ranged though.. In my opinion, mounted weapons should be certified not in CH, but at master marksman/brawler, and CH gets some accuracy or speed bonuses.I think here we must consider though if we are becoming a bit to...widespread. If all this goes in, a CH would be able to walk around, controling say the dual rancors (like now), use turrets on mounts, bring passengers on mounts, etc. While this sounds great, and might be realistic, personally I'd prefer even what CH is now to having a mounted combat profession and a CH profession...

Ah in Star Wars: Force Commander, stormtrooper dewbacks had guns on the mounts and so did the tusken bantha. I like this idea. Weaponsmiths could make them then CH mount the weapons. This would help out WS.

How about making some of the bigger, sturdier mounts slow, while allowing the player to use normal attacks from the saddle, and make some of the smaller, leaner mounts really fast, but require the player to put their weapon away and use both hands to ride them? You may be able to stay in the saddle of a Bantha without using your hands, but if you're zooming around on a little Cu Pa, you might wanna hold on.

They have Swoop races through Keren, why can't we have Cu Pa races through Mos Espa?
