I guess it's almost time to bid farewell to CH. The system just doesn't seem right to me. A Rancor doing the same damage as a Gurreck doesn't seem right to me and to waste my points by keeping. You spend all that time getting one and when you do, you're no better of than having a pet of lower level when it comes to damage. The profession was a multipurpose role and I simply don't see it. I hunted intensely with lots of different groups and my pets did not make a big dent in the health. Last I checked Rancors just ate people. While we can't have them do that in game, it's lame that when a CH calls one, noone seems phased in the least.

So, I travelled thru patch after patch and came to the realization that CH seems to get screwed regularily and the pets are just something nice to have. So, I figure I'm leaving the profession, but would throw this out to get opinions from the group to see if I'm justified in my thinking. If I'm not, I'll try to stick it out some more.

Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.

My suggestion would be to do alot of reading on this forum an combine that with your playing exp. Then make up your mind.

Personally my train of thought is about the same as yours... only difference is I cancelled my account again. Taken from another post on this forum here is the basic attitude of people posting here.

All the reactions to the recent CH changes are exactly the same as those we saw with the CU. We've seen all of the following:

The Uber No Mores

Had conquered the old system and fear the new system threatens their status.

The Happily Retired

Feel they have worked enough and don't believe they should have to work more.

The Not Good Enoughs

Change is needed, but not these changes! Their ideas are so much better!

The Dabblers

Everything should be easy, simple and instantly gratifying. What do you mean no AFK macros to level pets?!

The Bitter Pills

Never happy with anything, but they refuse to quit the game. Masochism is a skill.

The Rest Of Us

See the changes as a challenge and an improvement. Out there taming and having fun.

/yawn ------ THE OTER SIDE

Since you decided to make this a barely-disguised flame of anyone who fails to agree with you.....

You forgot a couple of the other responses:

Noob

Someone who just started the profession for the first time (or the game). They instantly have a complete understanding of everything that is, was, and ever shall be. No one else possibly has any basis for criticism, because, for all they know, things can only get better! After all, people still play the game, so whatever's happened in the past must not have been THAT bad. And past performance is no indicator toward future performance.... right? Right?

Noob-lover

Someone who's been in-game 6months or more, is no longer officially a noob, but still feels they already know everything (this feeling being reinforced by having a little experience in a few areas); has done a few things but hasn't been too heavily involved with everyfacet of the game. They've rolled with the punches to their little slice of the world and have never been so invested that any significant change has really hurt them. They're the first to come to the aid of the Noobs who arevocally irritatedby those "whiny vets".

SOE Sycophant

This person believes everything anyone tells them. They are the eternal optimist and will always assume the best, despite the walls crumbling around them. You could hand them a live grenade and tell them if they squeeze really hard, it won't explode in their hand. After a good portion of theirbody has been blown away by it, they'll happily accept that it was their fault for not squeezing hard enough.

TheAbused Addict

This person has been here since beta. They have an addiction problem. They know they should quit but they can't bring themselves to. No matter how badly they've been abused, they still believe SOE means well and will change their ways if they (The Addict)just smile and go along with the devs on everything. Everything will be better.... one day.

Fanatic

There is plan. It is awesome and incredible and the Devs(TM) surely know where they're going with all these changes, right? The Devs(TM) work in mysterious ways, after all! Those who question the Devs(TM) are unbelievers and should be purged from the game!

The Grinder

Has nothing better to do. Everyone else should have nothing better to do. Why do they complain? Grinding is Life. Life is a Grind. It's... cosmic, man.

well now that you will have a slower grind towards your new prof you can always keep some of CH during that time to see if it gets any better for you. If its not fun for you anymore then moving to something else is the key. I change professions about every six months, or at least jump on another character to play. It breaks it up and I usually dont get bored.

BH's are talking about dabbling in CH.

2 pets can lay multiple states without warm up and cool down or interfering with combat macro's.

CH can be used simultaneously with any combat prof.

The system as is will be nerfed but in its current state any L1 state sticks almost everytime (barring enemy resistence to spam). 3 CL23's hit for some nice damage, special them up n' you can add a few levels to what you and your pets can take down.

Leave?........now?........uh.

I'm still torn - think I fall into the "Abused Addict" category - but have quit and restarted twice (once with a 12 month break).

From the new specialsI've trained so far they actually seem better than the old ones, but the roles of BE and CH have changed dramatically.

I found Ienjoyed things more after heartlessly clearing my datapad and starting pet retraining again from scratch (but if I ever have to do that again I might just quit for good).

I'm leaving too, basically because there's non-combat option to CH anymore. It's a shame that combat is now required in order to not have mini-sized pets.

will this be the only prof you dont have then Just kidding, I just seem to see you all over the forums and it seems you have played just about everything since you know a great deal about a lot of profs. Maybe you just play the same profs as me.

I've played quitea number of professions, yes. None of which were part of the hologrind, all of which I've kept for varying amount of time, but never less than 5 months. So that means I guess I'm pretty knowledgable about them, as I've spent a good deal of time playing them.

At various points in my gameplay, I have had characters that have mastered: Droid Engineer, Artisan, Architect, Creature Handler, Rifleman, Doctor, TKM, Marksman, Bounty Hunter, Jedi (full template), Merchant, Musician, Dancer, Entertainer, andImage Designer. There's probably a couple I've forgotten, but I think that's all of 'em.

I really enjoy all the different things you can do in this game. I used to enjoy CH because it didn't demand you go out and slaughter things once you hit Master, you could just collect pets just for the pure fun of it. That is now gone, and CH is pretty much a constant combat grind now, whether to unlock the abilities of your pets or to learn new abilities, or just to make your pet grow. It's too bad, because I used to have a lot of fun with CH. The only thing holding me back from dropping it is trying to collect several CL10 mounts so I can have a big variety in non-CH mounts to use. Having to grind incessantly to make the creatures big enough to mount has pretty much destroyed my efforts, though...I spent the better part of a Sunday trying to level up a CL10 wild tame cu pa doing it all solo. I don't find that very fun, just to be able to ride the thing.

lol, well except for jedi it does look like we have the same profession interests. I see your point on non combat and CH now. It is kind of akin to doc after the CU. No more just hanging out in the med center and getting XPfor healing (not tumbling). It is all combat related. I guess that goes with the fact that you are getting a CL now with these profs. Well please accept my previous post as a compliment. I see you on the forums a lot and generally agree/respect what you have to add to the discussions. /bow

Have you tried Kashykk? To a CL10 trio, a CL28-30 Varactyl is just as good as a CL80 Bol, as far as XP goes. There are plenty of critters your pets can get quick XP from, which I hope helps you in your Non-CH pet raising. Yes, I agree that the grind is tediouse, but it's not excedingly terrible and your pets DO mature faster than they used to if you keep at it.

Well, honestly, Kashyyyk is an expansion pack. Yes, I have the expansion. However, some folks don't. So, basing a Mastery on people buying an expansion to level their pets decently is kind of questionable. I understand that on Kashyyyk it might be faster to level some pets, but again this goes back to one key element of CH which is now dead and buried - taming a pet and letting it grow on it's own without having to go out and kill thousands of creatures.

I didn't mind the slow growth rate one bit. I do mind that the option is now non-existant. It would have been a very simple decision in the CH reworking process to say, "Maybe some people will like going out to kill thousands of creatures to get their pets to a decent size, maybe some won't - let's just leave in a passive growth system for those who don't." Instead, no consideration seems to have been given to those with my playstyle, who were pet collectors.

Regardless of how much less time it would take to make a pet big if you grind on Kashyyyk, or how little time it may take, it still takes time. Time that used to prefer spending pursuing my other interests that my pets would contribute to...entertaining, hanging out at starports to make people excited about CH (who gets excited over a Rancor that's not even up to a Wookiee's knee?), waiting for new mounts to mature so I could ride them.

A passive growth system would have made perfect sense to retain. I'm appalled that it wasn't retained in the reworking of the CH system. Apparently creatures in Star Wars Galaxies only get bigger by chomping on other creatures, or else they're perpetually as small as small can be.

By no means do I want to discourage others in their enjoyment of CH as it now exists. But, the part I loved is gone and apparently will never come back.

I would be interested to have Ko inform a Dev or two that the removal of the passive growth system for pets (in size only) was a gigantic blow to players like me. It almost hit me as hard as seeing Musicians and Dancers get no elite profession skills, only faster Inspiration buffing that ultimately provides the same benefit a Novice Entertainer can provide.
