Thread: pet calling (from post below) vert!

I agree that there definitely need to be improvements in the speed and efficiency with which people can call pets. Someone who is out of combat and has not recently been in combat should be able to instantly call a pet with no timer. This is the way it works in cities... I see no reason why wild areas should be an exception. Particularly when slow and/or buggy pet pathing means CHs travelling with a group often end up storing their pets and calling them at the lair.
I think there is going to be resistance from other players to allowing people to call pets while in combat. I personally don't think there's a problem if there's a sufficient "weapon equip delay" while calling the pet... but some people will dislike this for purely psychological reasons. Even if it's the case that pulling a rifle or sword out has a morestatistically meaningfulimpact, people just see the huge animal materialize and think it's unfair. That's the major hurdle to overcome with this proposal.
In order to jump the hurdle, I was thinking about this las tnight very and.... Well check this out.
1) A call timer wont really do anything to help the person we are fighting, it just gives em more time to wail on the ch until pet appears.
2) What if, rather than having a timer. Seriously, our opponent has no idea when we actually called the pet, right? If it was 15 seconds, or 5 seconds, they have no idea when we called it, so why does it really matter.)
3) What if, and this is a totally new idea, inbattle, we call the pet in this fashion:
call pet, pet materializes 50 clicks behind us, sits there with a red aggro circle/dot on the radar so that the creature handlers opponent has an opportunity to assess the situation for 5-10 seconds, then the pet is able to be called into battle from there.
If you think about it, from a role playing standpoint, we are not carrying creatures around in our pockets, and it would almost make it like we have to call our creatures from where they were grazing to aid in combat or something. It gives the CHs opponent a chance to access the situation, and it could even give then a system message that a pet has been called.
Thoughts peoples?
That in itself would be a problem. I've seen TKM's and Jedi wearing "Novice Brawler" tags asking if anyone wanteda "friendly duel". Whats to stop an evil MCH from wearing a novice ch tag? Or a novice scout tag?

true enough..personally i don't pvp..not my thing really, i much prefer pve so does most everyone of my friends on the server...unfortunately the combat revisions are likely all geared to pvp (whoever those players may be..lol) and i think pve will suffer tremendously, which i think is a shame...by nature, in pvp no matter what the code is players will always find exploits and shifty strategies to seek the upperhand..that doesn't really appeal to me..i guess i'm too old to get any pleasure of haveing my toon beat up a thirteen year old's toon
During my Artisan/Pistols days, I used to run into combat with my "Homemaker" tag on.

You cannot use someone's displayed title as a meter for PvP tactics. Period. Unless your opponent doesn't know what he's doing, he'll probably have a title up that's the most misleading. When I used to PvP, I would often run in with Novice Medic up when I was acting as a Rifleman/CH... or one of my Ranger titles up if I was acting as a Medic. I know the Image Designers love wearing their ID titles while killing people with Teras Kasi skills or whatever.

So are you saying that the pet will be 50 clicks away only when called in combat? I was just thinking what a pain that could turn out to be while on Dath surrounded by aggressive creatures and your creature appears in the middle of another MOB that you were trying to avoid.

Hmm, I really need to start putting ideas together in a better fashion before i post them here, just no time.
Maybe just the system notice to all pvp players you are fighting that a pet is to be called would suffice. Good Point there kudali.

he makes a good point..you pet spawns and is incapped by a swarm of ns, and you continue to get your butt kicked..i like my idea of a warning on the screen of your target..plus if you wear the mch tag...whoever attacks you should expect a pet to become involved
