Thread: Random pet ability slot gains?

Tonight I managed to tame two motled wrixes from the same litter. Both had a special, although each was different: Imperiling Feint(L1) & Marring Storm (L1). (Mottled wrixes seem lucky for abilities, 3 for 3 - though I dumped the Precision Strike cat from that littersince I already had that ability.) Both have been kept out at the same times and have gone through the same fights for the same Training XP. On the first roll over, the Marring Storm cat gained 9 training points and 1 ability slot. The Imperiling Feint cat only got the same 9 training points but no ability slot. On the second roll over both got just the 9 training points and no slots; the Imperiling Feint cat didn't catch up - still at 0 slots.

If i'm not mistaken, the reason the one wrix didn't get the ability slot is because bleeding attack is a triggered ability. Marring storm is an innate ability, soyou also get the first slot free. The pet with bleeding attack used its first slot for that ability because it had to be trained.

Actually, it was Imperiling Feint (L1) (corrected above) but, that too is a triggered ability. Thanks for the info,

Nah, they should still end up with the same number of abilities once they max out. It doesn't matter if its triggered or not. There are 2 different meanings to the "Innate" thing.

Innate abilities in the context of taming a pet just means that a pet starts with an ability when you tame it. It doesn't matter if the ability is triggered or not, its still basically a "free" ability that doesn't take a slot.

Innate refering to type of ability means something that isn't triggered.

How many abilities they get at maximum should be the same, but how many XP rollovers it takes to get them is indeed random. As they get bigger, the chance to get ability slots increases.

its really totally random. my crazed gurreck got his first ability slot after the 6th level, whereas my dessert gurreck charger got his first 2 ability slots with the first 2 levels.

Didn't have a good night last night. Tamed 15+ creatures, (God it seems to fail so often now, even with taming clothes) Only one with an ability. Had an avg of 2 rollovers for each ability I learn, on my main pet in training, he's had 4 rollovers so far (taking about 2-3 hrs total) lots of point, no slots so far.....

Now beginning to agree it's taking too long. Not after instant results, but this sort of thing will deter casual players. Had about 7-8 hrs total playing since this went live, I've learned 5 abilities, and not managed to teach any of them to pets. :/

All cancelled the minute NGE goes live.

I've noticed this slot randomness also, and i happen to agree with the people saying it takes too long to actualy learn the abilities from the pets as the taming is harder now for the higher level pets.

I have collected 3 Innates in....well count the days since Pub 21 came and i've plaid heavily.

Call it bad luck or something but i'm getting furious about this.

It's not enough all the pets do crap damage but the abilities are way too time consuming to learn from the pets. God damit.

I agree, Ive been a Ch since the game began and I am not really happy about having to tame and level animals I dont want just to learn there power. On top of that to me this new system is way to complicated.

Innates?, trigger? pet ablity levels?!? pet training levels? pet maturity levels? pet power levels???? slot randomness ???? ability randomness?

And why should I have to roll over the exp some mysterious amount???

GUH!!!!!!!!!
