Thread: Just became creature handler, what creatures should I go tame and where can they be found??

Check for anything in your CL abilities and go hunting. You can get a Cu Pa he is CL11, I cannot remember what CL a Rock Beetle is. As far as Corellia, and Naboo, I am not sure, as I haven't been hunting there in a long time. The more advanced planets will be mostly vacant of creatures you can tame at this time.
Just target any baby you see and if a tame option comes up, go for it. I still think a Cu Pa is a good starting pet, as he can help you level a little bit. It has been a long time since I used a pet in this CL range, and I just got my Cu Pa last week (Edit: for a mount). After you get one box you can get a normal Bantha, I believe they are CL14. Also remember your pet storage capacity is +2 higher than what your skill mod says due to the mod being in addition to the 2 you can hold as a non-CH. So at Novice you should be able to hold 4 pets (been awhile since I double checked this also).
There are a few cats you can tame. Check out the site listed above and look for non agressive pets in your CL range, unless you are a Wookiee then you can go for agressive and non agressive in your CL range.

And swgcreatures rocks as well. Gives you a good idea on what your limitaions are.In addition to the advice on taming a cu pa (the classic CH starter pet) if you're on Corellia or Talus, look for a wrix to tame. They're fast, very courageous, and loyal to a fault.
The other advice on TTRing is very good as well. If you use your pet in combat, remember that the more lopsided the power ratio is in favor of the prey, the more CH XP you'll get. The pet needs to get only a single hit in on the prey for you to get the full CH XP, so once the pet scores (watch the combat spam) then open up with your weapon or combat skill and take it down. If your pet is incapped when the prey finally dies, you won't get any CH XP.
If you can get into a hunting group on one of the adventure worlds, it's also a great place to get CH XP. If you're soloing, I'd recommend you hunt the n00b critters that surround the NPC cities on the starter worlds. Keren is an ideal place to do this...lots of low level crittters and they regenerate fairly fast.

Aye,good advice. I spent a lot of time outside Dearic on Talus doing the same thing. And since you're killing loads of critters don't forget to harvest them - might as well make some money while you are out there.

My favorite place was outside Eisley. I got my last 80K of XP for Emp IV on mount day just so I could train those mounts, as I already had Manage IV and didn't realize they left train mount in the Empathy line for that temporary time period.
