I recently became MCH, and i decided to go toYavin IVto look for some Gackle Bats and Crystal Snakes. However, every time i come accross a baby, i "Fail to Tame The Creature". So i keep trying, and eventually, they get pissy, and either get their mother to attack or attack me themselves. I have tried other creatures on Dathomirtoo, and i keep gettin same thing. Is this normal? If so, how can i tame more effectivly?

Higher-level creatures are sometimes hard to tame. I was taming some Kinad Baz Nitches 2 days ago... a lair spawned 3 of them!! The first two were tamed within 10 attempts. But the final one took 57 attempts. I was actually keeping track by sending myself a /tell with a count. About 1/4 of the time it would aggro upon failure and at times, it's guardian adult would attack as well. So it's normal to work at times.

Now.. there are a few things you can get that tend to help.. SOME. Buy some BE clothing with Taming skillpoints added. And there's a food or drink (I forget which one) that is supposed to help, but I manage quite well without it... assuming you dont mind an occasional 50+ attempt tame.

So .. bottom line.. CH's tend to be among the most patient people out there.

You are doing good.

Just FYI, the food that gives taming bonuses is "Almond Kwevu Crisp Munchies". It's usualy around +10 to +15 bonus.

I've got+25 taming / taming vicious pants, use the Munchies, and also mask scent before taming (to reduce the chances of an immediate aggro when taming fails). Every few tame attempts, I un-mask then re-mask to make sure it doesn't time out in the middle of a tame. If the creature is really pissy, I also occasionally use Jawa Beer for the Mask scent bonus. I haven't yet gone for the really high-end creatures yet, but this generally gets me a successful tame in 5-10 attempts (and fewer aggros, which takes up time as you speeder around until the babybreaks off combat).

Oh.. I neglected to mention what I do when they aggro... (oh.. and thanks for the name of the food.)

My second profession is Master Pikeman. FYI.. I rarely wear armor.. and never wear armor while taming.

My leftover skillpoints are in medic.

So when I get aggro'd, I simply run away - letting the baby, parents, etc, ankle-bite me. I have plenty of melee defense to mitigate large dmg.. so I generally get hit for 100-150 or so from higher-end animals. This is easily kept up with with even the minimal medic skills I have.

Never attack the baby. But on occasion, the baby will turn back and the adult will still be approaching. When this happens, I simply kill the adult. Then I return and perform another tame attempt.

This is MUCH, MUCH easier than in the old days. I used to spend 15-30 minutes simply crawling up to within taming range of animals like a Rancor. The adults were much more deadly and the babies were so very fragile in comparison. I can't even begin to remember how many babies I accidently killed with a SS2 I used back then.

Nowdays, at CL80, I simply walk into a CL70 lair and tame away. No fuss at all.

when i try taming high level stuff with a good chance of getting agroed on a failed tame i usually hop on my bike (unmount - start tame - mount bike again - target baby again for easier following). with this i m fast away (150m) and back to start my next taming try on a failed tame with agro.

just be careful with this tactic when u tame AOE-attackers - i lost bikes to my bull rancor, blood seeker mite queen and blood frenzied boar wolf.

I have found the Almond food with a bonus of +18 ... never tame babies above CL 50 without it, saves a lot of bother (wearing the BE clothes, of course).
But so far I haven't found a use in mask scent ... sometimes I can tame 10 times in a row without getting aggro while not under mask scent, while with it I get attacked every time.
Lately I haven't bothered using it, and got almost all L3 specials

When I do get aggro, I also just run in a circle around the lair, 50m or so distance until I lose aggro. With 4000 CM I can easily outheal even 5 CL70 critters without wearing armor, at least until they give up.

My BARC is stored as soon as I arrive at a baby ... the repair kits are expensive ...
