I hate hunting with CH's. All too often they tell their pet to attack and just forget about it, only to have the pet and the mob attack and chase each other over the horizon into the sunset. In order for a pet to be usefull it must be constantly monitored and told what to do. In other words, you need to spam your pet attack command to keep a target in place.
You can use this simple macro to prevent your pet and your target from running away from you in combat.
Name your macro: PET_ATTACK_SPAM
Pick any icon.
/tellpet [attack command]
/macro PET_ATTACK_SPAM
That's it. This will continuously tell your pet to attack your current target. You can exit the macro by typing: /dump. You could alias the macro by typing: /alias [alias command] /macro PET_ATTACK_SPAM.

Every time you issue an attack command, it slows the pet down as it processes that command.
That's the only reason they may not be running doing that.
Try finding some CHs that can do their job and watch the pets. I normally only target the same target as my pet, which makes it easy to keep an eye on em.

Another useful macro: basically, use /tellpet (special attack);/tellpet (different special attack) until you list all of your special attack commands. Every time you you use the macro, your pet will use all of its special attacks (assuming they can). With this, and my 3 cats I can Dizzy, Stun, Intimidate, and KD all at once (if KD worked of course), leaving whatever I'm fighting on the ground and being ripped to shreds by 3 big cats and my carbine. Yum yum.
