Have you seen them in action yourself? I have just read that the CH tamedBull Rancor does not use its special.
Second, can you get missions for these creatures or do you find them in the wild? The next question is if only in the wild... where?
I have a Mantigrue Screecher. I'd say 7 out of 10 ties it will fire off its plague on command. VERY nasty tick to it.

Having been on the receiving end of a mantigrue screecher plague attack in the wild, I can attest to its nastiness.
It may well be that the sudden restoration of ranged attacks across the board with publish 8 has made these AOE attacks worthwhile to pursue again. I still haven't had a chance to test my savage humbaba out (too busy with some alt med grind and the ususal maintain the harvesters nonsense) but these may become attractive for practical combat reasons again.
The big reason I'm asking the CHs is that BEs report that they cannot make AOE pets at all.
About what level is an adult Mantrique? I'm going to look into purchasing one soon I think.

Gaping Spider Recluse is cl44, and you can pick up missions for them on Dath. Each time I got one, it took no more than a couple missions to get a baby.
The screecher is level 55. I took down one of their lairs last night, no babies though <groan>

Screecher is level 55 and the Plague Strike does hit on command about 75% of the time, and he will use it himself quite often also. I ran got two babies to pop in as many days, after weeks of searching back in January. However, I couldn't get the second baby as my Rancor and him were both hit with the Plague by an adult. We ran around for over 10 minutes, with me trying to store my Rancor only to have him turn to attack the adult again when only 15 seconds were left to store. I finally stored him and ran for the baby but the last tick of the Plague killed him when I was 12m out.
Keep trying you will get him, and good luck.
