Thread: Pets don't start out at their CL, they grow into it?

I'm looking at my pets currently, and next to level it says something along the lines of 6(15)

Does that mean that the CL is currently at 6? If so, could I get say a CL40 creature and use it for a few days until it grows too high of a level for me to control?

Apologies if this was statedbefore, I thought I looked at all the faqs and guides I could but couldn't find the answer to the question.

you can only do that if some one gives it to you and it goes stright into your data pad otherwise it wont let you tame a pet above the lvl you cant control

So it looks like when they are hatched theystart witha CL of 1 andit goesup every day as it grows. Are you saying it won't let me tame it if eventually it will be stronger than I can control? Or should I buy a CL40 pet now, knowing that I should be getting up to master CH around the time it's CL gets that high?

yeah you can do that as a novice CH. ask a master CH to tame you a baby-rancor or some other nice pet with armor/high resis/HAM and then you can use it for a few days. i am pretty sure you could also buy a deed for a BE-pet, tame it and use it till it outlevels you. but i am not exactly sure about the BE made pets....

I've done that. Early on in my CH Profession, I bought a BE'd Rancor I couldn't use and kept it in my datapad till I reached Master. At the time, I didn't realize you needed 4,4,x,x to control it but I knew I was heading for Master eventually, so I kept it. Only thing is it takes up datapad space if you are taming and collecting or selling mounts.
