I'm trying to master CH as quickly as possible. I did it once before a long time ago, but things are different now. The FAQ used to include advice about which tree to go up first and which pets to get at what level and such. This information does not seem to exist any more.
Any advice?

It doesn't give it because there's no fast way any more, and we can't advise you on pets because a BE will be able to sell you anything you want; it's all about what's being made on your server.

Does that mean the best bet is to contract me a BE to make me a pet of the appropriate level?

Wow, how things have changed. I don't want to sound like one of those whining geezers, but I remember going out to find new pets to tame every time I leveled a skill box. I think it may have been the most fun I had in the game.

Well, you can still do that and still level the old way. I'm on a new character and I'm still doing it that way without BE'd pets and so far I'm doing just fine.

I also like the tame/train/release method of levelling. The people I grouped with back in my early days of CH were sopatient as they understood my sudden exclamation of BABY! every now and then as I chased down every baby in sight to get xp.
I still use that method to get xp on Test Center with my CH there.
