Thread: Hard decision...

I have been an MCH since the first month of the game, before it even became popular. But I have noticed lately I am using pets less and less as they seem to be less and less effective in combat.

The character that has CH is also a Smuggler and I have been thinking of possibly giving up CH for master pistoleer... but it is so hard to make this decision because I have had and loved CH for so long. I hear players say "After combat revamp we will be good again" but I see nothing official on this subject.

I want to believe that the devs will do us just again but hard to grasp that right now as I also heard rumor they are thinking of bring out Driod Handler again... which is CH but with driods.

Any information or help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm about to pick up novice CH. I had it before the big CH revamp but dropped it because I took a big hit to the level of creature I could use. I've been wanting to get it back because I enjoyed combat so much more with creatures. I've been waiting for the promised combat revamp to get it again. I'm also wondering if it will even be worth it.

We can only guess at what the revamp will bring.

My advise is if you care about combat ability to hold off on any major career changes until we see how things shake out (Creature Handler or otherwise).

One of three things will happen with the combat revamp:

1.) Pets will be overeffective again, based on the reballance of the other classes. Chances are high that if this is the case, its going to be a pet/combat special that is overeffective, not the pets themselves. In other words, a repeat of the pre-nerf. If this is the case, expect us to be reballanced to the reballance. If they flat out nerf us again, that's bad. If they do something like keep the effectiveness of the animals but increase the skill points so less people can combine for them, that's good.

2.) Pets will be equally ballanced to the remainder of the combat professions. I personally do not see this being possible without a major overhaul to the CH profession, because pets cannot be brought in line with the other combat professions without overpowering certain characters. However, this is what the devs claim is going to happen. Try doing a Dev search under Thunderheart, Runesabre, and JustG in this forum for quotes.

3.) Pets will still be underpowered, we'll still be pretty useless, and we'll be screaming our heads off. I see this as the most likely scenario, and the devs will then respond that this is how CH is supposed to be from now on.

My money is on this one. The only thing CH's got from the Dev's besides nerfs were mounts. I suspect we only got this because the whole player base had tired feet from all that running. lol I think it was a quick fix to handle the howling multitudes. Either that, or it was a real coincedence that vehicles came out about a month to 6 weeks later. Face it. We are a bunch of outcasts.

Oh wait, we did get that new heal incap radial menu thing. lol I wonder which profession that is a beta fix for a complaint for. I have been here over a year and never, ever saw anyone ask for a radial menu to do the equilivant of hitting the thing with a Stim only not heal it past 1 HAM. lol I will have to keep an eye on the DR/CM/Medic forums more closely for their new heal incap benefit coming their way. The BE's got two mounts the last time but it was listed as a CH Benie.

Well I am glad to say that after taken many days away from my character and playing one of my alts and thinking hard on this... I have discovered that if I was to drop CH it just would not be the character I developed and love to play.

I have decided to goback to my original profession I grew up with, went thru all the rebalances with.. Master Pistoleer and Master CH with high medic to keep the pets alive.

Thank's to those that responded
