I heard about the 20% reduction in xp, and because im starting ch from the beginning again, its annoying enough. But i just found out when trying to grind tonight that our xp cap isnt like other combat professions either.
For each of the bottom row skill boxes, we need 17500 xp. But our xp caps at 20000 on those, why?
All other combat professions cap xp at twice the highest box they have. We should be capping at 35k xp on the first row of skill boxes, but we dont. Whats the reason for this? Another nerf by SOE because they screwed up and killed solo groups in the first place? I'm really getting tired of the crap they throw at us, every single patch yeilds more problems than solutions.
So if it wasnt bad enough with the 20% xp nerf, now ive gotta finda trainer twice as often as other combat types would have to. Im not sure if this is recent or not,b ut i dont remember the cap being 20k last time i was a CH.

I can't say there has been a 20% xp nerf. I have been testing this out and others have confirmed it but the xp seems to be based on a Bell curve of some sort.
If your fight say a Picket on Dant. If you use a lvl 11 to 22 pet you get the same xp. Go above or below that and you get lower. So people who are reporting lower xp is because the pet they have its too low and they actually need a higher pet to get higher xp. If we knew the new system that would help but as in the case with these dev's they stealth nerf things and then stealth change things and don't tell anyone what the change was.
The old system was worse IMO but the new system isn't great either. Really to be fair, we should get more xp for training and taming a pet based on it's level. We should also get more xp when using a higher pet to kill a mob. You don't see people grinding Pistoleer using a CDEF Pistol. Every opther combat profession uses the bestweapon they have as it gets the most xp. We don't seem to have that ability, if we use the best pet we have we get lower xp then and now to add to the confusion they have some mysterious "zone" of optimal xp that no one knows what it is.
The Dev's have to be more up front about the changes they stealth make.

Hi
useing a high level pet on a creature gives you lower xp, than useing a lower levelpet on the same creature, the only thing is you have to step in as soon as your low level pet has got a strike or its dead....im not to sure as its beenabout ayear now since igot MCH, and as far as i can remember its all ways been like that....
NO CAPTAIN, I SEE NO SHIPS JUST HARDSHIPS
**I once ask a group if thay wanted a hand "as im a creature handler" thier reply was: no thanks we are in a hurry**

well the 20% xp thing isnt what annoys me most, its that while other professions cap xp at twice what their box is worth, ours doesnt, which means we have to find trainers a lot more often, and the only npc CH trainer i've found on my server is in coronet, lag city.

Here's my thoughts on it.
I've been a CH for a very long time. It was the first profession I mastered.
I've never noticed a decrease in the CH xp I get. I'm currently doing FS Senses and using the CH xp to convert. I get about 100k a night doing what I do every night, which is hunt for a baby bull rancor
I use a single level 23 female Narglatch (I love that roar and it's intimidate attack) and I get the same xp as when I use a level 31 bio-engineered pet (which I don't like). If I use my level 12 Kaadu, I get 1xp per bull rancor. If I use a pet bigger that level 31, I start getting less xp.
My point to my rambling is this: I ran into a guy on Dath the other night who needed some CH training. We grouped, I trained him, we started comparing pets, I pulled out my CL70 light armor, strong disease, strong poison 17k HAM kimogila (and it's worthless beyond the "Wow, that's a big boy" factor because I always get 1xp when it kills a bull rncor by itself)
. The other guy pulls out his CL18 pet with light armor and 12k HAM, and then asked if his pet was ok because he was only getting 20xp per rancor and it took him two weeks for one skill box.
So ... I'm wondering now, does the level of a creature AND if it's real or BE'd make any differences? I myself try to be a naturalist CH and only use pets I tamed, so while I don't get the insane HAM and high caps, I have also noticed no change in the xp I get using my normal pet.

I've been MCH for over a year, and the rationale for our ch xp system stillbefuddles me
I'm just glad I don't have to do it again.

I felt the same way for a longtime, I felt like the xp grants for CH where very fustrating.
That's why it was so nice when the GEO cave was active. Since I hit master and no longer have to worry about xp
it's way more fun because I can use any pet I want. no matter how low the grant you get through it and it'll be more fun for you once your done.

Not true anymore with this stealth change.
Dant picket with lvl 11, 12, 16, 20and lvl 22 pets give the same exact xp and I mean exactly the same.
Tried a lvl 6 pet got half the xp, tried a lvl 30 and got half the xp.
The Dant Pickets as I understand are lvl 32.
From what I am seeing its a bell curve they are using. See take lvl 32 and lvl 16 is have of that, Then give a 12 lvl spread and you have lvl 10-22 for optimal xp. The fuether outside that the worse it gets. This is just a guess because its a dev "secret" so we can't lvl too fast.

Its not really a "bell" curve is more like a "plateau" or "mesa" curve with a level slope between a ramp-up and a ramp-down. Regardless, its annoying. Until other combat professions start getting less XP by using better weapons (or they actually make Ch normal), its unfair.
