ok i am master rifleman and master Ch; so i need Tanks. But I have noticed here lately while hunting Bull Rancors and at the squill caves,I can be ungropped with pet send it in to attack lair or creatures.be almost 100 meters away not attacking and they will still come for me.What is the deal I mean if i was grouped i would understand. But since when did rancors get smart enough too realize that my Peko Peko ungrouped that agroed there pile of bones was sent by the guy on the speeder bike 100 meters away.Squills same thing send creatures in to attack them start laying down flurry 2 on them and they decide to attack me instead of my (3) war grondas. It seems that creature handler is weak in Player VS Player; And know I can't have em tank missions either.

When this happens to me it is usually right afterI have tapped the lair and peaced out. This can make things real interesting at time as I am usually unbuffed. What I put this down as just a little lag and my peace hasn't kicked in yet.

That was the reason i finally dropped Pistoleer and went TKA due to the fact that i would always have something ignore my pet and come beat me down. now with my TK defense skills im not such an easy target.

It happens occasionally to me. But I can usually identify what I did wrong.
If I am close to a lair of aggressive creatures and my mask scent is down, often the new spawn will come for me, even if I am not attacking. If one pops and breaks my mask scent, they almost always come for me.
But my biggest problem is just getting the mob that happens to be agressive to me targeted so I can send pets after it to draw agro. Targeting really sucks in this game. There really needs to be a way to drop your current target and target your last or current attacker. Or just tocycle through those agressive to you, not every mob within 300 meters.

It used to be that if you were ungrouped with the pet, nothing would aggro you at all. So they fixed that....
Now it seems to be a 50/50 chance that a mob will target you if your pet attacks them and you are intheir sensory range. I do know that if I send my pet *past* one mob to attack one further away, often that closer one will turn and come after me since it considers me 'closer'. However, by and large if I am at the edge of their range (60m+) and there is none near me, my pet usually gets all the aggro.
Last night I was killing a lair of 4 arachne widows and 1 queen unbuffed with a pet tanking. Only once did one of them turn to come after me, and all I had to do was switch my pets target, then KD it and get out of range. KD or posture down seems to be required to give you that space/time for the pet to acquire aggro (at least for me).
I wonder if 'ferocity' dictates anything. I know BE pets with higher ferocity are much more aggressive even at long range. I know some creatures will aggro from 70-80m without provocation or any indication they've detected you (maskscent or not), whereas others let you get quite close even without maskscent.

Yea, this is how it's supposed to work thoguh really. We used to have a lot of problems with people who where ranged sending in pets and standing in the distance unharmed while they killed everything that moved. To avoid that they made it where the target has a chance to attack you because the system knows that you are working togther even if not grouped. There should awlays be some danger when you attack something.
I have to say though I can normaly get my targets to stay off me for a while. CH was never ment to be a tank in the sense that it keeps all targets off you at all times, it's only an extra line of def, and a friend to help attack. People are still the best tanks, so if you want a real tank then group with someone, that's the best way.
Pets are fairly good tanks but they won't protect you from everything all the time.

I have found this too but it's mask scent. If I stay back and send pet in with mask scent up then I am good. If mask scent is down then there is a 50% chance one of more will come for me. Also if I shoot a mob that is currently not fully involved with the pet they may switch to me as well.

One thing that I also find helpful is to have your pet use its special attacks to try to get the aggro back. Pets don't really have a "taunt" command like Brawlers, but enemies seem to really hate being hit by pet specials. If you can survive long enough to move your pet to melee range, you're likely to be able to "scrape" the enemy aggro off your character this way.
