I normally don't read the Carbine prof forums since I don't play one. But, my friend is starting it up so I thought I'd try to learn a bit. under a thread that asked "Why did you chose carbines?", I saw this post...

""""""I keep hoping that we will be improved in the CURB. Seems anytime I say something in guildchat about not being able to attack a certain mob in the game my guildmates say...well you need to be a TKM or a Swordsman....I told them if I wanted a swordsman I'd play DnD. I think the only reason we got swordsman, fencer, pikemen, TKA ( which you should have to be Force Sensitive for before you could even start in it ...to be true to that order ) was because they wanted to appeal more to the masses and attract those that might have played EQ ( I think the same is true of Creature Handler to a large extent....and I do have a CH toon....Mecinea ) even though it made the game less star warsy. I'm hoping the CURB will bring greater balance to the combat professions. Ever combat profession should have the same chance of defeating a mob, each should be able to contribute meaningful effort to defeating high level mobs. Such content shouldn't be limited to just a few professions that weren't even shown in the movies ."""""

How can you honestly believe that creature handlers weren't in Star Wars? Who taught all those creatures to mount? Who tamed and trained the rancor in Jabba's? Remember Mos Eisley? Creatures everywhere...

I won't get into the other profs, but just to say... Pikemen were actually seen in the movies, they just didn't fight (the royal guards were Pike if I am not mistaken). Also, fencers and swordsmen were seen in The Ewok Adventures (yeah yeah, they were crap, but they were Lucas films if I am correct) I definitely wont get into my feelings on TKM because it's one of my favorites and I don't want to start a flame fest

I never bought the whole CH isn't star warsy crap, for most of the reasons you just mentioned. I think a lot of people who say that just didn't like back in the days when a CH was REQUIRED for any major hunting. I think CH is very star warsy, and should be viable in hunts, especially against creatures.

well to tell the truth most brawler professions were in starwars

Pikeman: the weequay guards
Fencer/swordsman: well the jedi saber required knowledge of swords
TKA: EU but still starwars

CH: THe rancor tamer malagi in ROTJ

now as for carbines, all a carbine is is a short rifle. Explain to me why that requires a sepearte profession?

/hail Malakili. The first one of us....

When I think of Carbines, I think of more automatic weapons. Rifles are more for sniping....while carbines are for spraying darts of death in all directions. Unfortunately, before the CURB atleast, rifles have a lot of "full-auto"-looking attacks.

M16- fullly automatic rifle
M16 Carbine- a smaller version of the M16 for special forces

M60- a fully automatic rifle that had a bipod and tripod attachment.

Now a sniper rifle is a completely different "beast"

You misenderstood the whole point of this opinion.

The purpose of his post is to defend the carbineer profession that actually has a great potential but isnearly useless against high end PVE ( cant apply stats at all whilemelees do it, very minimal damages or not at all due to resists ) .Not even need to mention PVP...

The majority of players actuallyplay melee prof because they are the most efficient, or even only viable onesin mostsituations

.*** So people say " ... well you have to be TKA or swordman...."***<---- well that has to change with the CURB!! thisis the crap response ranged profs ( except riflemen ) get when talking about their actual efficience There are plenty of combat profs, why focuse on a few melees profsonly ? That kill diversity.

Actually this guy has nothing against ch or any of the brawler profs. When he say brawler profs appealed a lot of people from Eq game types that is true in many ways even if most people play SWG because they are fan of the movie itself . Same goes with CH ( attractive and fun ).

Honestly , how many CH appearances did you see during movies ???( that was about his remark about starwarsy, dont see any bashing on the prof from him)Now again it doesnt mean CH shouldnt be in game, they are in, and its a good thing ! Same thought with melee...yes we see ewoks, gamoreans with axes, a pikeman, jedis and so on, but in majority of cases we seen mostly pistolasers, carbines, blasters and other lasersbattles all around .

Melees and CH have their place and role in SWG , the guy never said they shouldnt be here !

Ask yourself why you see mostly blasters and such? Cause it's a special effects movie (as stated by Lucas himself). Just because they mostly showed that style of fighting doesn't make the existance of Creature Handlers, Brawler types, entertainers, etc any less valid in the game or any less Star Warsy. When you start saying that the prof is not star warsy or that it was just added to appeal to the masses, you might as well just say it shouldn't be in the game.

My problem is that I get sick of people that start dogging, with or w/o good intentions, other profs simply because they are disatisfied with certain things in their own. Instead learn the strengths of your prof, and yes, carbines does actually have some strengths. The problem isn't that brawlers are better, the problem is people can't seem to learn new ways to do things or can't adapt to new situations. This game (every game for that matter) has also got a lot of people that want things NOW!!!! With that kind of mentality, what prof is going to be best? Well, the one that can walk up to mass mobs and just hit a spin attack. People don't like to have to actually learn tactics or learn their profs, they just want that I win button. As much as people scream for change and say something isn't star warsy enough.... it always turns into we want change, but we don't want to lose what we already have. Just look at any forum on these msg boards. The average thread starts out....

"This game sucks. Some other prof can do something better than me. The loot is crap, but I want more loot. Loot is too easy to camp, but I still want to be able to get loot. Nerf brawlers. Nerf ranged profs. Nerf this, nerf that, but don't let it effect me."

I think I got totally off topic (and it was my topic to begin with)... perhaps another cup of coffee and I can make sense.

Anyway, as a side note... I'm such a geek that I spent a day watching every one of the star wars movies in a row. In each one you saw, guess what!?!?!?! CREATURE HANDLERS or animals that had to have been tamed/trained by a creature handler. You also saw brawlers, whether they fought or not, they were there. OMG! But, like I said, it's a special effects movie, so yeah... blast away and try to hide the fact that those other profs do in fact exist in the Star Wars universe in the movies.

You got totally out of yourself m8, you re speaking like if i looked down on melees, read my post again after taking a deep breath.

When did i say some prof was less or more valid than another ? when did i say anything wasnt starwarsy enough ?? Did you you even FULLY read my post ?

You talk like if i wanted my specific prof to be the best over others ? erm i dont see that written in my post...

---------------

"This game sucks. Some other prof can do something better than me. The loot is crap, but I want more loot. Loot is too easy to camp, but I still want to be able to get loot. Nerf brawlers. Nerf ranged profs. Nerf this, nerf that, but don't let it effect me."
--------------

Dont see why you pulled that out, im not whinning or complaining about anything , i just wrote some common facts and explained the thought of the guy who wrote the post you quoted in this forum.

Im currently playing as carbineer along with "creature handler" and i love both profs , and go figure i also played melee as swordman and loved it as well , just dropped it to have fun with another skill for a change, so dont pull "people cant just learn how adapt ...or play something else ..." crap, im not in this attitude .

I know the weak and strong points of profs i played and didnt complain about .

I thinkyou were in a too passionate feeling when reading my post and didnt get my thoughts , i actually like CH prof as much as you do, and despite what i wrote about carbines they can be deadly or at least annoying in pvp if you are well prepared.I just exposed the facts :"" almostineffective on high end PVE ( no landing stats, low damages) "", if you tried carbine you see what i mean.

There is no whinning, no bashing , no complaints , no personnal attacks in my posts , so /peace m8

No, I was not misreading your post or making any statement directly towards you. Please re read my post then I am presenting the GENERAL and very broad way people in this game and other games think. The original poster of that thread, same as you, might not have said these professions don't belong in the game, but just by making a statement like that, feeds the fire of those that honestly believe these professions don't belong. Gives the profs a lot less credibility. That's why people are always whining about how one class is too overpowered. Well, if you (NOT READ AS YOU PERSONALLY), think TKM's are too over powered, either get off your arse and become a TKM or actually learn, and i mean really LEARN your current profession and you might find out it's just as powerful... just in a different way.

I'll say it like this... in general, people are too quick to cry nerf or too quick to say something doesn't belong in the game if it ruins their own personal enjoyment of the game.

As to the original intent of me posting this here. I don't think I said anything inflammatory against the original poster. I was simply stating that creature handlers were in the Star Wars movies, along with brawler professions. They are in every movie. So saying they aren't "star warsy" is an outright falsehood. It's simply easier to make blaster and space fights exciting. What's so exciting about following Joe Blow while he's searching for the elusive pygmybunnywunnywabbit of Endor? And if you want fist fights or whatever, you can watch Rambo. So naturally, the focus is going to be on what you can make as exciting as possible... and with great special effects.

But, if you want to make the game REAL, you must include these professions. It's not out of "appeal for the masses". It's out of the reality of the Star Wars vision. So, by ANYONE (no, this doesn't mean you) saying that ch's, dancers, musicians, etc etc etc are not star warsy enough... well, how often did you see a chef in Star Wars? Not so star warsy to have that prof I guess? But then all the uber l33t dewds gonna whine cause they don't have their brandy.

So, again, every prof does have it's place in SWG. Some have issues that definitely need to be resolved, but oh well. Give me one gave that is absolutely 100% perfect in the eyes of all those that play it and I'll give you a nice shot of my arse on a beautiful spring morning in the rose garden.

And I don't need to take a breath. I'm smiling with every word I type I know what to and what not to get passionate about... this is a game after all

EDIT: And after re reading my original post. I never did actually say anything bad about the poster. Just made a statement about how could you not see CH's in Star Wars or say they aren't star warsy This didn't turn into anything huge until you made it that way hehe. Nothing bad against you, just an observation
