Thread: Mounts have all died....

Yep my mounts and it seems everyone else's mounts must have died from neglect. No one ever takes them out to run anymore and they all must have died from lack of attention from their handlers.

Ok, well maybe not. But it seems that since the swoop bikes have entered the game no one uses mounts anymore. There just doesn't seem to be enough advantage to use one anymore. Sure you can fire a weapon from a mount that you can't from a bike but that just doesn't seem to be enough.

My suggestion is that mounts take on some extra values for specified classes, that way there can be some more diversity in the game and unique benefits for different skills. My suggestion also includes several aspects that will have effects across the game.

First part of the suggestion is that both creature handler and ranger get some special bonus attributes while on a mount, like being able to use special attacks, and accuracy modifiers, so that accuracy doesn't go down the tubes by being on a mount.

Second, that mounts take damage before the player on the mount takes damage. This makes a mount a very useful defensive shield for the player on the mount. This will be for anyone on a mount. Since anyone can have a L10 pet, anyone can get this extra barrier from attack. However, since for most people except CHer, L10 is all they can have then that limits them. And for CHers the extra level of pet could be a larger factor. But it would count against the number of pets out at one time and against the max creature level number they have out at one time.

Since this level of protection from being on a mount could be a very effective defense, it must come with a cost. I propose that the saddle the pet has on take a 25% hit to its durability for every time a pet is incapped. Yes Incapped, not killed (incapped). So after 4 pet incaps the saddle would need to be replace. And only a CHer can mount a saddle on a pet. This would only be an inconvience, not really a huge cost.

The cost would come from building saddles. A tailor could build a saddle that a CHer needs to use when making a pet a mount. The materials for the saddle would likely have to be sizable enough that a saddle would run in the 10k + range.

I think these ideas would help bring mounts back into the game, add some more diversity and could be useful all around. I hope some developer will read this and start thinking about how this might help in rebalanceing things later as well as make the game more interesting.

Yeah giving us speeders and such killed mounts for most people.

i like using mounts sometimes as a creative way of travel for roleplaying, but yeah

maybe when ever CH issues are adressed and we get our time in the spot-light

mounts will get a revamp! well one could hope......

I honestly don't know what you are talking about, I use my mounts on a daily bases. When I run missions, I have Qapla' and Lung out, my twin Mountain Dewbacks, and I ride Qapla' all the time, unless I have to be somewhere very fast, then I use my swoop. I haven't had to repair my swoop in a couple weeks.

The uses for mounts are few. It could have been a viable source of income for CH's if done right in the first place. Like defense bonuses or the use of specials from mounts, or mounts acting as a shield, or mounts able to attack while mounted, or extra storage space.

Will any of these ever happen? I doubt it...

Try picking your mounts for something other than simply riding. All save one of mine do duty as combat pets.
All are used, even to the point of riding to missions on speeder and calling "mount" out to fight. They do the job as well as any cat or spider.

Right on, Qapla' is a mounted Dewback and Lung is an unmounted one, and Qapla' does as much fighting as Lung. And even if you dont' want the pet to help out, just tell it to day, then mosey on off to the next missions.
