Thread: No Giant Angler for me. Pretty disappointing (and I feel kinda jipped)

Okay, so, despite the fact that I have been around this game since launch, there is still a lot that I have not experienced. For many different reasons, I have not done too much travelling around the galaxy, and it was only recently (a couple weeks) that I finally set foot on Yavin 4. I went there to hunt crystal snakes, to harvest the meat for a guildmate who needed it.

As soon as I arrived at the spawn point of my first crystal snake spawn, and saw my first crystal snake, I knew I wanted one. It was on that first den that one spawned, and on my first attempt, I got myself one.

It didn't take long for me to see a ton of other creatures from Yavin that I wanted to call my own.

I wanted a kliknik, of some form (I have 2 kliknik defenders, which are my most powerful pets, currently). I wanted a giant gackle bat, which I got. I wanted a skreeg warrior, which I finally was able to tame yesterday. I even tamed a giant stintaril, and still have it currently also.

But there was 1 pet that I still wanted on Yavin, that I couldn't get: The giant angler.

I had only seen one baby, one that was killed while I was hunting with a reckless guildmate who didn't seem to care for my oppourtunity to get new pets. Later on, I was talking to a rl friend of mine, who is Master Creature Handler and recently returned to the game, and he told me that the giant angler was level 35 (he had just tamed one himself). So I couldn't tame one anyways. I was gonna have to wait awhile; being 2.3.1.3 I could only tame and use level 32 pets.

Well, today, I was out with a group of guildmates in the geo caverns on Yavin, and I managed to get the experience for x4xx CH, and when I got back to Naboo, I got trained. Tonight I logged on again, now a 2.4.1.3 Creature Handler, wondering where I wanted to go hunting this evening. I tried Lok, but after a couple missions poofed and I didn't get money for them, I decided to go back to a planet I trusted; Yavin. Then I remembered: I just got my new CH skill, I can get level 37 pets now! I'm gonna go after that giant angler.

So I did. I took a couple angler missions from the terminals, and headed out. I got to the first waypoint, cleared out what was already there, hit the lair, and sat back and waited. *spawn > target > "an angler (baby)" > /tame*

This isn't THE angler I want, but it's an angler, if nothing else, it's experience. So I tame it successfully on the first try, and instantly store it. Run back to where I told my kliknik defender and my probot to sit. I look back at the lair, and see another yellow dot on my radar.

*target > "a giant angler (baby)"*

So now I'm thinking "JACKPOT!".

*/tame*

"You cannot tame that"

??? I try a few times. I know sometimes the game glitches, so I try a few different techniques to get it to work. But to no avail. The creature isn't in combat with anything. I'm just trying to normally tame it, but I keep getting "You cannot tame that".

So a guildmate of mine is on in guildchat, who happens to be a Master Creature Handler. I tell him my problem "I can control CL37, why can't I tame a CL35? Did my friend mislead me? Is it not CL35?" He tells me that it is indeed, CL35. I ask him "is it because my taming viscious creatures might not be high enough?" (again, only box 2 in that tree). He says no, that's only for how quickly you can tame it.

So now I feel jipped. The giant angler is at the top of my list for pets that I want right now. Sure, it's not a bull rancor, or a greater sludge panther, or a great plains stalker like most of the CH's go for. I'm sure I can find another one fairly easy, as it's not one of the big rares or anything. But this is a pet that I want, and by all the info I have, I should have been able to tame it tonight. But it wouldn't let me tame it. And now, my datapad is still short 1 giant angler. *sigh*

Your friend was incorrect. If you were not wearing any BE clothing then your taming vicious was not high enough. Grab some BE clothes and you should be able to tame the creature. Taming vicious does affect what you can tame (yes it also increases your chance to tame), but it also prevents you from taming higher level vicious creatures if you don't have enough skill in that area. Hope that was a decent explanation, but its late. Good luck, and I'm sure you'll find another one!

Yeah, that isn't the case. The classic example is a non-Wookiee MCH cannot tame a Bull Rancor without taming clothes because the taming vicious mod isn't high enough.

Well with 2423 and a +25/+25 i tamed a Giant angler Baby just a few seconds ago so i think maybe you should try to grab some BE clothes?

Okay, thanks... I always assumed myself that as long as I had the "taming viscious creatures" skill (which I do) that I could tame any creature, as long as it's CL was within my control.

Okay, well thanks for the new info, I didn't know that. I guess you really do learn something new everyday.

No problem. The clothes are important. You only need one article of +25/+25 to cap, I got mine for about 15k on Flurry.

Well thanks for the info guys, I didn't realize it was like that. I figured, even before my friend told me, that the extra points in taming were just for a quicker success rate. I assumed that once you could control a creature of a certain CU, you could tame it, period, as long as you did have "taming viscious creatures".

Well, I gues next time I get on, I'll start searching for some Creature Handler clothes to use. I've been looking for clothing attatchments, but I haven't been able to find many worth buying.

Even a master has trouble taming some critters sometimes, For example on endor the babies seem harder to tame then other creatures of the same level on another planet. The meriks and the larger spiders can be a real challenge my master ch has clothes that give him max taming on vicious and non vicious, camo & maskscent he also has food that helps to tamebut every now and then i'll find one critter there that just dont want to be tamed.

Im still trying to get a widow& screetcher babythe last widowbaby I found kept walking around and lead me right by a blurg raptor and enough said on that encounter.

Oh for other adventurers thatwant to tame on endor avoid the SE section of the desart east of the battlefield gorax ishas multiple spawn points in that area and he keeps popping up right when your in range

Now, from what I know +25/+25 is the cap for the taming wild/vicious. I am a MCH on Flurry and have a vest that is +15 and a pair of paints that are +15, I use them together when I tame high end creatures, and yes I still have trouble. My Great Plains Stalker took about 15 attempts to tame, it aggrod me 2 or 3 times and it also aggrod a couple other animals in the process, but I did get it.

But something interesting happened over the weekend. My son was attempting to tame a Mottled Wrix which are lvl 18. He was only 1/1/1/1, but he had a hat and a jacket that were both +25/+25 each. He put on the jacket, which should have given him the max taming mod, but when he attempted to tame, it said "You cannot tame that". So he added the hat and was able to tame the mottled wrix.

Anyone's thoughts?

From what I understand the way that the taming buff works is. If your a lvl 10 for example and you have +25 +25 taming clothes your still a lvl 10 you just have a 25% better chance of taming something of your level. Im not 100% sure on this but it does make sence and it fits the circumstances
