Thread: CH Noob with a few questions
L1, L2, and L3 are types of abilities as provided in the game. Presumably, they mean "Level 1", "Level 2", and "Level 3", with the higher number abilities requiring the lesser forms to pre-exist unless the creature has the form as an innate ability.
Example:
Pretend you tame a baby Thune Herd Leader ( L44 ). If it has no innate abilities, after maturing the pet until it had three available ability slots, you could then teach it Beastly Constitution (L1), Beastly Constitution (L2), and Beastly Constitution (L3), to give it the maximum of Beastly Constitution ( hitpoint regeneration rate ).
You could not just teach it Beastly Constitution (L3), because that ability requires the pet know Beastly Constitution (L2). Similarly, you could not just teach it Beastly Constitution (L2), because that ability requires the pet know Beastly Constitution (L1).
However, an ability found on wild pets bypasses any prerequisites, and uses no ability slots. So, if the baby Thune Herd Leader you found came with Beastly Constitution (L2) ( true example, based on one I caught in the wild ), he gets the second level ability for free, and doesn't need Beastly Constitution (L1). So, you would only need one free ability slot ( and training points ) to teach this baby Beastly Constitution (L3).
Clear as mud?
QUESTION 2:
Creature size is based on pet maturity level, not on pet combat level ( CL ). CL is fixed, and NEVER CHANGES from tame to destruction for a particular pet type.
As in my above example, all baby Thune Herd Leaders found in the wild are CL 44. When caught, they are tiny. As you mature the baby, the pet grows in size, gains ability points, and gains ability slots, but remains CL44.
In fact, the only Thune Herd Leaders found in the wild that aren't CL 44 are ones from mission terminal spawns, and they never have babies any more.
As a bonus tip, only CHs can mature a pet. A non-CH can use a pet all day to fight, and it will never gain pet experience, so it will never gain maturity levels, ability points, ability slots, or size.
OK, that helps, I was under the impression that the CL of a pet would go up as it got experiance. That clears up a lot now. But creates a new question. Is there a way to tell if a Lair is random or mission spawned? I as because if you know a lair is random but no babies are there you could Clear it then tap it for a new wave of spawns in hopes of getting a baby to spawn.
Also is the max CL of creatures you can control still in the game? Where do I look to check that and the # of creatures I can have in pad? I did not notice this anywhere when I taught my Dewback a few commands after getting NCH.
Mission lairs are have the name of the creature in the title of the lair.Eg. a kreetle lair.
Wild lairs are named after the type of lair Eg.a rocky shelter.
The max CL of pets you can control andalso how many pets you can have stored inyour datapadis shown on the left in the skills window under My Skill Mods - (Max Level of Pets and Stored Pets)
As a Novice the max CL that can be controlled is 12 as Master it is 70
Hope this helps ![]()

mission lairs always have the name of the creature in the lair. so it's "a bol lair" for example instead of "a dead log" or "a pile of rocks". if it doesn't say the name of a creature, it's a random spawn and fair game.
the max at master is CL70. you can see your own current max by going to your skills page and look for "max level of pets" down at the bottom left.
Ok thanks a bunch guys.
Last batch of questions for this thread.
Are there any particular animals that are really good after certain CLs? Any that are bad Under certain CLs? Anything like that?
Is there any equips out there that are good for CH? Any Clothing Attachments that are particularly helpful or worth spending a bunch of creds on?
Any other important tips, info, or advice for a new CH?

Since the CU, animals have been so genericized that the only real differences are if they haveAoE attacks, Ranged Attacks, or Melee Attacks & whether or not they're mountable. The only "bad" pet situations might be when a mount gets incapacitated or when you don't want your pet using AoE attacks. Is there any equips out there that are good for CH? Any Clothing Attachments that are particularly helpful or worth spending a bunch of creds on?
Creature Taming Clothing: +25 Taming Wild Creatures & +25 Taming Vicious Creatures. I hear BE is bugged right now so the clothing may be a bit scarce at the moment.Any other important tips, info, or advice for a new CH?
Read the stickies, especially the two new ones: The Guide to the New Pet System & Pet Abilities. You might also want to familiarize yourself with the Special Attack Groupings. Realize there's a lot of new information out there, so the jury may still be out on some of it..
Thanks Tusk,
That should cover most of my noobness LOL
Anyone that feels like adding any tips please feel free. ![]()
Also anyone on Bloodfin know of any good BEs or their vendors?
