Thread: Grand Wrix VS Greater Sludge Panther

The GSPs HAM gives it an unmatched edge over the Grand Wrix.
You would be surprised in ANY PvE battle how much difference between life and death that extra 1500 points of Health, Action and Mind can mean.
In my search for the 'ultimate cat' the past few weeks (Great Plains Stalker, still havent' found many spawns), I've discovered some interesting combos of wild cats and done some rearranging in my dpad accordingly.
In order of lowest to highest CL, these are all the cats on the server I feel are worth having:
Razor Cat [7K HAM], Greater Sludge Panther [8K HAM], Crimson Razorcat [8.5K HAM], Swamp Stalker [9.3K HAM], and the Great Plains Stalker [11.5K HAM].
The last on the list is the only one I haven't caught, but the other 4 can be pulled out in interesting combinations.
You can have a Crimson Razor and a Swamp Stalker out at the same time, for example.
You can have2 Swamp Stalkers OR2 Crimson Razors out at the same time.
You can have2 Razorcats AND1 Greater Sludge out at the same time.
Uhhh, you can have 1 Great Plains Stalker out at once.
I am sure there are other pets that can be combo'ed like this to get as close toCL 70 as possible, I am just naming the cats.
Well, comparing level 25cat to level 25 cat, I think GW and GSP are really about equal despite the GSP higher HAM - in fact, the HAM is whatmakes them equal in my opinion. The GW has some other advantages the GSP doesn't.
Comparison of GW & GSP (not counting HAM):
GSP has 35% kinetic and 45% acid special protection and effectiveness 10% energy, blast & restraint. But it is vulnerable to stun, heat, cold, and electricity. Special attack crippling strike.
GW has more special protections: 35% kinetic, 35% electricity, 30% energy, 50% heat. Its effectiveness 10% stun, blast & restraint. It's vulnerable to just cold and acid. Special attacks stunning strike and knock down.
Those extra special protections and fewer vulnerabilities are important when fighting NPC or other players. Especially considering that the most common weapons are energy and heat. The GSP vulnerability to stun (GW 10% effective vs. stun) is not to be overlooked either. Both cats have same attack speed 2, base to hit .35, and ferocity is effectively the same.
So, while that extra HAM for the GSP is significant it's really the only advantage the GSP has over the GW (other than the acid resist). In fact,GSP has somereal disadvantages in its protection and vulnerabilities. And the GW extra special attack is an important consideration. So, in my book, it's only the extra HAM that makes these two cats equal.
(Now, for any level 25 pet the boar wolf probably is best though the GW matches up ok except for HAM - and it looks a lot cooler :smileywink
.
As DaBudo pointed out the Grand Wrix's resistances to energy and heat makes them more effective against NPC's that use blaster style weapons. Even that isn't as big an advantage as it used to be as the AI for very few npc's lets them run and gun anymore. Most will stand their ground and go to hand to hand for some reason. Storm troopers seem to be the only ones smart enough for that and you don't want to be using a CL 25 critter to tank a trooper.
Of course this whole debate has changed since they started shuffling the Grand Wrix's stats. Back "in the day" they had AR 1 (light armor) which made them the hands down choice.
I'd also like to say, for all you cat types out there, that the CL 50 Gurreck mentioned above, is a real winner. I'm not a power player so I haven't been out fighting any night sisters with mine but he's able to tank 2-3 Stormtroopers if I stay out of the way and just heal him with good quality Pet Stims. He's also quite petite so you won't get any complaints about having him out the way you would with a Rancor. I actually had a bit of a chuckle just before they brought in the CL 70 limit and had out my Gurreck, Swamp Stalker and a Grand Wrix. The smaller they were the tougher

This topic inspired me - Im a newish CH.
Had a really good day out and about, tamed 2 Greater Sludge Panthers, a Crimson Razor Cat, a female Razorcat and a male Razorcat and also went to Dantooine and got myself a baby Graul. 2223 at moment my best days taming work yet.
I really like the Cats - the predator look is very cool - all the herbivore creatures are really unconvincing, a real ugly bunch.
How about the Boar Wolf Ravager?
Semi Rare I would say - Circa 10.5K Ham, 50% Kinectic and 50% Blast at level 34.
I have a nice pair....ooer missus

Give me a boar wolf any day of the week. Level 25, 9K HAM, 60% kinetic ressit (i think). That was my replacement for my trusty old Grand Wrix!!
Yup, the boar wolf is the best midlevel pet in the game now, since the GSP and Grand Wrix were nerfed into near uselessness by the meatlumps.
I'd take a GSP over a GW even back in the day, for hunting of critters. For NPCs, who were more intelligent back in the day than they are now, yeah, the GW was the choice.
