As the title says, can they dish the damage? Defend bases, hold key points, control crowds?

Or do they simply get beaten too easily and act as something for people to fire at.

If anyone could share your experience with PVP with me on a larger scale it would be much appreciated.

as far as i have been able to tell, pets aren't that great in PvP cause players can target the player/owner and if u go down, your pet stops fighting.

When you wanted me i came to you. and when you wanted someone else, i withdrew. And when you asked for light i set myself on fire. If i go far away, i know you'll find another slave.now i'm free from what you want. now i'm free from what you need. now i'm free from what you are! -audioslave

They're good at controlling crowds in PvE because the AI reacts predictably.

Players, however, will do smart things, dumb things, and dumb things that turn out to be smart afterall (and vice-versa) which renders the pets much less effective.

That, and experienced PvPers know to go after the CH and ignore the pet, unless they're just into fighting the pet for kicks. I've done a number of duels like that, where the player wants to take on a creature under controlled conditions (not having to worry about BAF or someone idiotically attacking a lair for more spawns).

Inexperienced players can be psyched out by CL 12 wrix under the right circumstances and easily defeated. Put a rancor on them, and they go into the full panic mode, even though CHs know that rancors are simply not that overpowering.

I have been involed in a large scale battle once in Mos luna, Mos luna imps v rebs from anchorhead. I used a few big tank pets with high HAMs like 10k +, I used a Kimogla and a malkloc. The Kimogla when down in like20 seconds and the Malkloc lasted a just a little longer. I think it gives your side some extra time to do more damage to the other side as the other side is fighting your pet but I think its a waste of time using your pets in big battles as their get floored very fast and lose life and even then people moan about your pet being to big

As things are now people just don't wantyour pet in thier group what so ever. When I join a group these days I don't even get a pet out.

After the pet nerf we got I gave up on PvP all together and went neutral, your pets are mostly useless in it, a TKA will take him out in seconds, and your pet does way suxie damage now. I do PvE only now with my pets.

Pets are usefull but don't expect them to wade in to enemy lines and wipe out combat characters with mastered professions.

Here are uses I have found for pets in PVP:

#1. Adding states. Using pets that have special attacks (and knowing the tricks to get them to work) can help by applying states like intimidate, blind, dizzy, kd etc to enemies. After applying the state effects you pull back the pets and use them on someone else.

#2. Chacing down straglers. Cats and birds are faster than players and when someone attempts to run away you can sick the pets on them to finish them off.

#3. Causing confusion. Big pets block make it hard to see and generaly create some confusion among the unprepared. Not a great use but it has its moments.

#4. Distracting people. Agian you want fast pets. Send them in then pull them out causing people to change targets, waste time and resources and the like.

#5 Attacking from out of range. Tellpet works at a longer range than weapons do, you can easily attack targets who cannot attack you back or even target you. THis helps with tactic #4. Also you can command them from a swoop bike and no one can catch you if they try the "kill the master first" strategy.

#6 Delaying tactic. You can use them to delay and tie people up untill reinforcements arrive. Even though they don't last long you have lots of ammunition. Send in a pet from out of range. Create a camp near by. When the pet goes down, call another pet at the camp and send it into battle. Then after the timer expires recall the first pet. Repeat. Again have a bike sitting around in case anyone comes after you.
