Thread: Upgrading pets as you level CH?

I think that giving bonuses to pet stats as we climb the CH tree would be great!

Something like a Master CH's pets all automatically count as having light armor, and if they already have light armor, they get upgraded to medium would be a GREAT way to help us out.

There could also be other upgrades along the way, like at eachlevel of Training your pet gets a +5 to it's max and min damage, with a +10 or + 15 at MCH. Theincreased damage could be shown in parenthesis to the side of normal damage.A Creature Handler doesn't just control his creatures, he makes them stronger than wild ones, because they're trained to attack more effectively!

Or for the Empathy tree, every level, they get an increasing ability to taunt attackers off of thier masters, maybe controlled by a Taunt command. It would help for those occasions where an extra monster spawns and attacks you instead of your pet.

These abilities could start maybe at level 2 or 3 of each tree so that not just everyone could have them, they'd actually have to work for thier added skills.

I'd love some feedback on this.

Great ideas, but beyond the competence of the devs to implement, especially in a profession that is widely seen as an embarassment to the game, not an asset. The database issues alone would kill the idea.

Not a bad thought, but since there are so many pets available, not to mention the moststers that BE's can make the creatures strength increases are unnecessary. However the taunting thing isn't bad, it could work similar to the ranger attack that peels agros off others and gets them to come after him. That would be nice. As I already see in this short post a reference to the Great CH Nerf or 2003, asa post Nerf MCH, I don't have a problem with the way pets are now, I meanwith properly used specials u can do ok, and as long as we don't get rebalanced in the combat balance, things should work out ok for us. And hopefully they will change the way are pets are calculated during PVP. Or if they must keep it this way at least let us get them buffed. (HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE!)

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.

I wasn't saying that having a BE pet couldn't give stronger pets. What I meant was that it's a good way to increase the power of normal tamed pets. Of course, it would be nice to add the bonuses to the BE pets too, but it's really meant for the tamed pets.

Like I said: a CH's tamed pet is trained to attack more efficiently, and take damage more efficiently, so therefore: it should have strength modifiers.

Heck, maybe at certain levels like management 4 and MCH, they could have speed increases to be as fast as speeders. Not swoops, since then nothing would ever get away (although it would be nice to have my pet keep up!).

Logical, makes sense, etc.

However, I can't see the devs ever doing it, for two reasons:

1. It would probably require the effort of a major publish to make it work

2. CH is a hated profession, because we dominated the game early, as we were one of the few functioning elite professions. The "pet wars" became a major embarassment to the devs. So CH had to be brought down and made unattractive to the majority of the playerbase.

I agree with Sio... I wasn't meaning to flame, I meant that's why I think they wouldn't do that... but I think the Taunt still has validity, and could/ should be emplimented. I would like to maybe CH go back to the way it was with this stuff, plus have the pets protect their master to the death no matter what, but just make our prerequisits so high that it is pretty much all we can do kind of like BH. Make us have to Mater Ranger or something. (DON'T do this DEV's it was just a crazy thought as part of my post grinding to get better icons)

Dyxon,

Just so we're clear, I think this is a terrific, creative, and logical idea. It makes a lot of sense that tamed animals are trained and gain experience. After all, the original concept as Holo (Raph Koster) outlined was tha the creature pet was an extension, a part of the main character. I'm not the same player without my pets as I am with them. I approach things differently depending upon the pet I've got out with me at the moment. As I gain experience, so does my kusak stalker, or crimson razor cat, or male mammien for that matter. They should be gaining XP and becoming more skilled too.

However, it's another very well thought out and reasoned idea from a player that will fall on deaf ears. I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but all to often it seems that as cynical as I am about the developers, I'm not cynical enough to match the reality.

I understand that you weren't trying to flame me, and I actually didn't take it that way. You were simply voicing the very real fact that we can put out great ideas, but we don't get listened to, becauseCHwas so powerful early on. The devs only see us as whiners and complainers, because we were once perhaps the most powerful proffession in the game before they nerfed us. They've turned us in to a proffession of pessemistic realists who KNOW that they aren't gonna help us, no matter how good out ideas are.

....although I suppose by continuing to give ideas, that actually leans towards optimistic....

Ok, I've confused myself.
