Thread: Help explain this please Pet willingness to fight

I have noticed some words like "hostility" and "ferocity" levels refered to with pets but I don't know anything about this.

I really wish some of my pets jump into a fight, instead a few mostly the lower level ones will just take a step or two and then look at the target without actually fighting them. I even have a few level 30-40 pets that do this sometimes.

One the other hand my wild tamed greater sludge panthers CL25 seems to run into any fight instantly.

So would someone explain this please? is there some sort of number associated with their willingness to fight or something? How do I discover what this is or check my pets for their willingness to fight level if there is such a thing and what is it called?

There is currently a bug where some pets that don't have ranged attacks are trying to use them anyway. That's probably what you are experiencing.

Ferocity mostly seems to determine if your pet will death blow in PVP but other than that hasn't had an effect anyone can quantify. Some pets seem prone to runnign away in combat but common wisdom is that it has more to do with the shape of the graphics model than anything else.

Actually, there ARE numbers for that. You just don't get to see them unless you're a Bio-Engineer. Thereactuallyis aferocity stat under aggression and dependability and courage stats under psycological. You'd have to be a BE to know which creatures have a higher chance of running in and fighting, or just sitting there, or you'd have to make a long, boring study of it.

On a slightly different note, are you telling your pets to guard you so that they run in and attack anythign that attacks you, or are you just trying to see if they'll attack on thier own?

Unfortunately as a MBE, I can only see the ferocity after I sample a creature, and I can't do that to a pet, unless I made it, and didn't tame it yet. But the previous messages are right, the psychology of a pet will make a difference whether it'll run or not. Also, I've noticed that aggressive skins will fight harder, so choku's, Razor Cat's and others like them (can't remember them all) will fight harder because they are aggro pets. Most of the pet's I've made never ran, unless they we're really beaten, but even then most fall before running.

Another thing to look for is creature speed. Cat's will get into combat way before a lumbering Rancor or Graul will.

Actually, I tell my pets to guard and follow me when I take them out.

But, for this post I am refering to pets actions after I tell them to attack (no specials). Some pets just dive in, some will just act like wimps and will try to sneak up on them, one step at a time.

The thing I am thinking about is that I am starting a new character and have done CH before. I even have some pets left over to transfer when my new guy is ready for them. But the low level pets (mostly) are hard to get xp with when group hunting because they never get there in time. They just wimp out of the fight and never get that one bite it that I need.

When I get to CL25 it will be easy as my Greater Sludge Panters dive into anything and attack rapidly. They do great in large groups as we can take on many targets quickly so the xp goes up very well. But I really would love a pet that was as agressive as my Greater Sludge Panter but in a L10 pet. It only would have to do one bite beforeI pull it off.

So is there a way for me to know what a pet's ferocity or courage numbers are? Or is this something I would have to ask a BE who makes the pet?

And yet another question. When working up the Aggression and Psycological to improve these numbers does that increase the pets CL?

I'm very confident this is a bug, not an intentionalresult of hidden "pet reliability" numbers. Thisphenomenonwasn't aroundprior to Publish 8, now suddenly it's happening a lot. In any event, I've been reporting it as a bug.
