Thread: My Opinion on the Great Plains Stalker
Last spawn I saw on Naritus was before the last Publish, and it was a double spawn, near the center of the map. That was almost a month ago. I haven't seen one since then, but I've pretty much given up purposely looking for them until or if the devs change the spawn rate for rares.
Six weeks of my life wasted. Six weeks. Not continuously, mind you, but a good 2 to 3 out of 7 days a week riding around on a landspeeder, marking waypoints, not covering the same ground twice.
The Great Plains Stalker is not worth it, folks. I was as gung-ho about it as the next guy upon seeing one that belonged to a friendfor the first time, but when you really get down to thinking about it carefully, their resists, their armor level doesn't make up for their incredible HAM and attack power. I would no sooner pull that thing out in PvP than I would pull my earlobes off with my bare hands, knowing full well it would receive a nice, quick incap. If you can't replace it with an equivalent concordant with hunting around for one without having to spend months finding it, it isn't worth having.
This is if you are a practical pet owner, of course. If you want one just for bragging rights, by all means, knock yourself out. I just personally don't believe in owning anything that isn't worth using, or that isn't replaceable. The GPS, its random spawn rate coupled with itsso-so resistance stats for a level 50 creature do not make it worth the trouble of trying to find.
Not to say that if I just happen to be riding around on Corellia one day and one pops up I won't go after one and try and pop a baby, of course I will. But I am no longer going out of my way for a creature that -- in MY opinion -- probably doesn't even spawn every day (I'm serious, I think the spawn rate is THAT low). No one has ever figured out a rhyme, reason, method or pattern of spawning that is concrete and proven.
If you're bound and determined, I wish you the best in finding one. I really do. If you're a PvPer, stick with the BE pets. That's all there is to it.
Note: I meant to put this in a new thread a few days ago, and didn't realize that I had attached it to a different thread.
I tend to agree on all points there. I was looking for one for a while. I haven't even seen an adult in weeks, whereas a few months ago I was running across adults fairly regularly.
Spawning in general on most planets seems to still be out of whack to me. On Corellia, for example, I pass a lair (of any kind) every five hundred meters or more. I'm not sure if that's just the server hitting the spawn cap or what... but it's not very conducive to taming.
Well said Tycalibur and I agree 100%.....its been almost a month since I saw my last GPS on the Scylla server and have also thrown in the towel to getting one of these beasts for exactly the reasons you have mentioned.
I had to ask myself a very hard question....is it worth spending the time get one....the answer is no !
When you really look at its stats it does stink and a level 51 creature.
I know this is blasphemy but the Bio-Gurreck I use to guard me when looking for these was made with Bark Mite Burrower Queen DNA and he has light armor and 60% kinetic resist and almost the same HAM and definitely better damage than the GPS.
So other than a trophy pet what is the use.....absolutely none in my book.
To bad they spawn so erratically because I do love the cats to tame but this one is way to hard to get and not worth the effort put forward by me.
Nuff Said.....if you are interested you can read about my last encounter with the infamous GPS here.....

I totaly agree 100%
i went after the GPS becuz I wanted to get a big red Razor cat and knowing he was a formidable foe in the wild isthe thrill i was after.I know my BE razor cat is FAR superior, the GPS being one of the only cool wild cats to get, i wanted to add at least one to my collection.Sure the bragging rights are fun. But like ppl have been saying for months now. The whole rare hoopla thing is making the top end CH more frustrated and bored then anything else. All the rares have non worth it stats. When you think about it, its just for the "fun" of looking for something that you dont often see. At this point thought its just so ridiculous there not even worth looking for. This game is suppose to be fun, more and more its getting to be more frustrating to get what at Master we have earned. Id like for MCH to be able to use there rares in battle, would be fun. Truth is they take so much time to find , no one wants to see them damage.
My GPS story:
I read that NE was a hot spot for great plains stalkers, so I went there. I also read a theory that they spawn close to water. So I pulled out my swoop and started going NE, and then followed a nice little river. On the other side of the river I found a single great plains stalker. I killed it, and another one spawned. Killed that one, and another one, and I got a baby. This was during the 4th hour of my GPS hunt on the server Chimaera, without using areatrack.
After a long break, I spent early this afternoon continuing my Frenzied Graul hunt. Although, I still haven't seen a baby, today, more than usual, Dantooine seemed to be littered with Frenzied Grauls.
Seriously, I don't think I could travel more than 400 or 500 meters without running into a FG spawn, in many cases two different spawns right next to each other. In just a couple of hours, I managed to gather over 15k of Leathery Hide offof Frenzied Grauls alone.
A good part of me still believes that the babies are out there. If not, I should be able to rake in a fewcreds for the Hide at least.
