Thread: Creature Handler Mixture

I have a really simple question: what are some decent profession mixtures that center around creature handler. I'm considering becoming one, but I'd like to plan ahead before I begin. The only thing I've really been able to imagine is a Bio-Engineer. That would allow me to tame powerful animals, create more powerful animals, and then use those animals. However, such a combination would severely limit my third mastery if not remove it completely. I'm mostly interested in a versatile, support style creature handler, but I'll take any suggestions at this point.

I play a Creature Handler / Bio Engineer with a little bit of Bounty Hunter (for specials and more CL). I picked this combo because I love making pets and I love exploring. And I feel that CH's and BE's are real exploration type classes since they are constantly looking for new babies to tame and new DNA to harvest. The Bounty Hunter choice was simply because it fit well with the CH skill requirements (they share the same scout skill reqs.). I am not a Combat Level 80 player with this template, however. So if that is important to you, you might want to consider a master combat class to go with CH and maybe round out the rest with medic or something.

Well I started out as MCH/MRM and was medic with some FS, after CU I have kept these apart from medic and got Novice Squad leader for defensive/offesive bonuses & BH 0001 for same reason,0001 gives me blind shot which I find useful atm.

Always a balance, even with this my melee defence is low, not that this should be a problem if pets are supposed to be a part of our defensive bonus. I still need to use food/drink, but I don't think it gives me much chance against most things around CL 90 or higher or some elites.

Hopefully things will balance out as they introduce updates and fixes.

If it's purely creature based you want BE or Ranger are the profs for you, my suggestion would be MCH/MBE with maybe Ranger Tracking and/or wayfaring.

I am a Master Scout, Creature Handler 1/4/4/4, and Pikeman 3/2/4/3. I have enjoyed this, so far. My pets can hold off creatures for a while and my polearms allow me to deal large amounts of damage.
For TC, I want to make a Master Creature Handler, Master Ranger with a little bit of Polearms. This allows for improved Mask Scent abilities plus the Camouflage ability, making exploration and (hopefully) taming of agressive creatures easier. THe polearms allow the character to at least survive combat (with the large range of damage).

What combinations to choose really depend on how you wish to play your character.

From the sounds of it, MCH and MBE are most interesting to you. Getting a combat skill in there would benifit you greatly. I'll put a shameless plug in for Pikes ( :-p ), but ranged would probably work better, allowing your pets to hold your opponents at your optimum range.
To give you an idea of what what you would be working with, after MCH and MBE you would have 52 skill points to use. This is enough to Novice any elite combat profession or to Apprentice a combat style and work on other skills.

Don't go for BE unless its something you want to do in and of iteself, or you realy want BE creatures but don't want to pay for them. BE takes some work and you will be spending a lot of time sampling and crafting in order to grind it out. (unless you are good with the macro grinding). It is very hand to have while you are grinding CH. MCH can take a while, and taming inumerable BE pets (which you will be making doing all that BE grinding) will help you go up in CH. And as you say, you get good pets.

But, once you get to MCH you won't have much use for BE unless you simply like bieng a BE. Once you have a full databad of pets you will only need to replace them every once in a while. BE pets are fairly easy to buy, so its simpler to just purchace them. You will also be very limited in combat, not useless, but not terribly strong. MCH just can't do the damage on its own that you can if you add in some other combat profession. Personaly I like Rifles as they do good damage at long range, which works well to make up for MCH's weaknesses (low damage, poor personal defense). BH is a lot of fun though, and is quite versitile.

So ultimately, I'd suggest you try out BE and see if you like it. If so, grind that and CH, but take some rifles to help your pets in fights. After mastering BE and CH, drop the BE unless you like doing it for its own sake, and go for whatever ranged profession you like best, or do like me and mix/match.

Thanks for all the input. I'm actually suprised how many people suggested using bounty hunter. Still, it does make sense. I'm starting to get an idea of what I'm going to do, but I have one other question. What is the usefulness of ranger? It was discussed a little but not much. It doesn't seem to be worth the trouble to anyone not using scout skills. Even with that condition, it still seems to be a tad lack-luster. However, it must have some serious benefits. What are they?

Everyone, to the smugglers forum!!!!

I know there are other forums for each profession. I actually created a thread, well, two accidently, asking a similar question about Bounty Hunters. I would have done the same for becoming a ranger, but I don't really see myself becoming a ranger anytime soon. Besides, both bounty hunters and, to a lesser extent, rangers were discussed in this post. I didn't really see the need to clogg any of the other forums when I could continue here. I'm still interested in creature handler templates.

Now, onward, the smugglers forum!!!
