Thread: Somewhat of a gripe about whinners.
No.
There has been a big change since the patch. Most noticeably with cats.
When I have my rancor out, I notice no difference.
No Flames from me. You are correct. You have to CONTROL you pets in combat. Telling them follow and re-attack is a great way of stopping the pets from running so much.
BUT there has been a noticeable increase in pets running since the last patch. Your big pet tries to get to it's optimum range of 7m to 9m from the target. The enemy tries to close to it's optimum range, you pet backs up, the enemy closes, over and over...looks like your pet is running away from combat. Same thing if your pet is small and the enemy is big. Same size pet versus same size enemy seems to be ok.
Yes, its managable..but a serious pain in the @#$#@.
Also, when will my pets stop standing on me?
Make it go stand on someone else? /shrug
If that is a major issue, then our class isnt as broke as people make it out to be.
(Insert flames about if it isn't broken, what about pet specials attack-here)
It's not whining, it's just a lot of people trying to get the Devs to fix a veryannoying bug.In nearly every fight now my pet runs off with one or more mobs at a full run. And if I call him back it usually starts all over again within a few seconds. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, it mysteriously stops a ways into the fight. But other times it lasts until the mob is dead. The bug has almost made my pet more trouble then he's worth.
I'm working on mastering CH because I think the pets are fun, but I'm already a Teras Kasi Master. So I prefer to do most of the fighting myself, with my pet there to watch my back and lend support. He's more of a traveling companion for me then my main weapon. Butmy dewbackcan't watch my back if he's busy chasing a mob up and down a hill repeatedly 100 meters away (something that just happened to me earlier). And I can't concentrate on my ownfighting if I have to keep telling my petnot to run 200 meters awaythroughout the entire battle.
Creature handling should be about telling your creature to do useful things for you, not constantly calling them back because they are doing something you don't want them to. Why? Because the second option is just plain annoying. ![]()
I'm really close to just not using him in combat anymore until they fix it, because of how annoying the fights have become for me. The only thing stopping me is just how attached I am to having my dewback by my side helping me. I just love that big doofy lizard to death. ![]()

As one of the people that actually used the kill/come/kill system to keep my critters in the range I liked, I have to say (with respect) you're wrong. The running around was never this bad before. There used to be a time when I could use my commands strategically, handling my critters, and actually making it easier for all of us to get what we wanted. Now, I spend all of my time trying to get my critters to do what I want them to do, instead of what they want to do. This does not make for a friendly game.
Last night, my group was hunting on Yavin with me. In the time that we were hitting things, I ended up being poisoned more times than I can count because the pets would run around so much that they were running into me, and their prey was using me as the target, instead of the pets. (I love my medic friends!) If I wasn't constantly telling them to kill/come/kill/come then they would run into the next town with the prey, and none of us could harvest.
Someone pointed out that the problem of them running around so much more now might be related to the fact that our critters now want to stand on our heads when at rest. This would make sense, since both problems seemed to happen because of the recent patch.
When you dismiss these problems as something small, you are not considering that they did not exist to this degree before. Yes, our critters used to run around when fighting certain mobs. Now, though, they run around when fighting ALL mobs, and that makes the game far too difficult in a bad way, and thus, less fun for us. Hence the complaints, and our general desire to have this fixed. We all want to be out there having fun PLAYING the game - not working it so that we can simply survive it.
I have no problem with the attack-distance running, but with all the issues going on in the game, Pets running away is the least of our problems.
Consider yourself extremely lucky if you've never had to deal with:
Pet Auto-Store during battle
Special Attacks not working upon command
High Level/Ham Pets going down in 1-2 shots in PvP (although not a bug, just a balancing issue)
Pet Pathing/ Following where your pet would get stuck behind a rock or tree (forget going anywhere on Endor) or going uphill. (Same goes for Droids and Support Personell)
