Last night I was bottom feeding in Mos Eisly for CH xp. Had fun with it.. but I noticed something strange; My technique was to send a pet after a Wort, let it hit it once, then I autoattack the Wort to kill it before it hurts my pet Womp Rat too much. I have a few boxes into Carbineer and am using a Laser Carbine. I usually hit things for around 250 with the autoattack. On occation I would accidently jump the gun and attack the Wort before my pet got a swing in. In those cases I would one-shot the wort for like 300+ and get no CH xp. This would hapen every single time I jump the gun. Always. Let me be clear. I NEVER miss. I NEVER hit for less than a few hundred. This happened a few dozen times, especially as I started getting tired and lazy as it got later in the evening. This seems normal, right? I should instanta-kill yard trash like that without much thought using this weapon. Fine.
Here is what is strange; The 98% of the time that things went to plan, whereby my Rat would get his shot in first, my autoattack would do SIGNIGICANTLY LESS damage than the times when I fired first. I mean bigtime - like miss, miss, miss, hit for 90, counter attack, counter attack, miss....... What the fook with that?
It SEEMS like the damage and to-hit values that are being calculated formy attacks are being modified by my lowbie pet's to-hit and damage, when the pet is considered 'in-combat'. When the pet is not in combat, I am my normal, yard-trash erasing self. When my pet IS in combat with me, The dmage and to-hit that I do is closer to an average of my skills and weapon mods and the pets.
Can anyone confirm this? Or is everyone gonna say I just have some increadable luck? Keep in mind, I must have killed 2000 Worts and Rills last night. I started observing this behavior very early on and kept a close eye on it all night. The stats I took on the situationareaccurate enough to say that I one-shot theMoB 99% of the time when my pet isnot engaged, and one-shot the mob almost never when the pet is engaged.
This does not seem like it should be like that.

Areyou watching your accuracy meter?. When I was leveling CH with a low level pet I tend to come close to my target instinctively --perhaps that can explain the high number of misses...

No matter how hard you hit for, you never do more damage than a target has in its HAM pools.
Compare your combat spam with the floating number when you hit something small, like a baby paralope. You will only do 30 damage (or a bit more for bleed-over into other pools). That is all it is.

Good point on the accuracy meter... I will have to pay attention to consistency with that if I get a chance toplay tonight. My normal character is a Doc/Pistoleer, but this one is a SL/CH/Carbineer. Big range differences. That might explain the misses, but not the damage numbers.
Understood about the damage cap to the HAM values. The point is that I am not one-hitting them when the pet is attacking, so the numbers can't be capped at the HAM value (that I am not reaching).
I take it that others haven't really seen this. So whatever is going on, it is eather a non-issue as I start using 'real' pets, or it is totally my imagination / strange luck.
Thanks for the attempts at explaining...
