Thread: Ch is not a spectator sport

I've been reading far to many posts along the lines of Ch is dead, I can't kill so and so, a Tkm beat my pet in 1.5 seconds. I QUIT !!. Ch has changed, like it or not, the old days are gone. Now you have some choices, drop ch and move on, or change your toon and or playing style. If you're playing ch as your main damage dealing profession, you're hurting yourself. Good damage, say 500 pts every 2 secs. Lot of pets can handle this. I'm speaking average. Now your char is pistols IV, throw in another 200 points. 700 points every two sec's isn't going to get the job done. No specials here, just average damage. commando or bh with ft/llc 500 points from pet, 700 to 1000 from you, 1200 to 1500 every two sec's, much better. As it stands now, pets are great tanks, discounting run away bugs. But you have to do your part also. Your pet pins target, you kill it.
Another point, pets do no damage. balance is just beginning so p vs p is up in the air, and any foe worth their salt is going to kill you 1st anyway. But how much would you pay for a 500 pt power up for your weapon? Is that a worthless power up ?
You have to be able to kill your opponent before they get through your pets, do the math, you can see the damage given and taken.
The days of standing back and watching are over, CH is not a spectator sport anymore.

Good post. I've been ch fora couple of weeks now. I wasn't around in the "good old days", and when I picked up ch I didn't expect my pets toreplace my primary weapons.

Maybe that's why I don't understand the veterans' complaints and threats to drop ch.

Personally, I think it's great. My level 15-16 petsgive mea HUGE advantage in PvE. I'm carbineer 2312, and I can solo level 32 Piket Plains Walker missions, unbuffed (just a shot of Fishak or Brandy). There is no way I could do that without my pets.

As mentioned in the previous post, theidea is to deal damage with your weapon while your pet is tanking and distracting your target.

Ifthat's what you expect when you pick up CH, if you like soloing and PvE, then you'll love the profession.

Neb,

That is a great post. I feel what you stated is mostly true. There are other reasons people feel like quitting. I think most have adapted to the needing a second profession to do anything worth while part. What is driving anger and defeatist attitudes is bigger than adapting. I can handle my pets tanking and doing little damage while I must contribute the majority of damage. I can handle the fact that one way or another I rely on BE. If i do not buy BE pets I will constantly use stims to heal my pets. Or I buy the BE pets. My choice. What the majority of CH's are up in arms about are persistent bugs. How do I contribute pistol damage if my pets are constantly running out of range? Oh sure, I can /follow and /attack in cycles, but CH's attained more agro with the nerf than ever before. What do I do when pets autostore? It seems to me that the current answer to that is more CH abilities need to be places. +## protection vs wild kinetic damage. If they cannot fix the autostore bug, as a CH I should expect some benefit when fighting critters.

Not sure that I agree with these points. As an example I have a swordsman toon, 1,3,1,1 she has not problems soloing picket lairs - usually buffed so I can bang out several before recharge. I also have a MCH, and novice carbineer. she can also solo - but it takes like 3 to4 times as long. I think that is part of the problem, I can do3-4 times the missions with my swordman toon than with my MCH toon. Plus no running pets, auto-storing, etc. As a MCH I feel that I should be able to make a bit better accounting of myself, we'll have to see how things shake out with the combat rebalance.

Good point Rurry, my bigest problem of all is not that the class has changed but that it is broken. It has been broken from way back in August. The pet specials do not work right, the pathing has never worked and the pets autostore or just run off. People on this board can tell me I am using them wronge or you need to use this or that work around but I have been a MCH from August 2003 and I know what I am talking about. I do like this game and I like being a MCH I just wish that they would fix it.

As to some of the other points, It would be nice if there were some combat skills built into CH. Nothing huge just maybe special shots that we get because of our creature knowledge. Like "target weakness" with like a 4x DMG mod. or "disable movement" that stuns creature or drops it to its knees for 10 seconds.

Zeke,

I am of the frame of mine +5 kinetic resist per tier for a max of 25 at master would be nice. In the event my pet shield-weapon-companion decides to autostore, I would have protection.

Side Note, I like the Hutt faction idea. Both Hutt and Black Sun.
Everyone would be game.

I agree that C/H is no longer a stand alone profession. You must do most of the damage. I love my pets and will never give up on C/H. I think we do need some defense resists or something linked to our lvl, so if my pet bugs out I don't get totally owned.

When was CH a stand-along profession?

Even back in the days of 2 75% maulers...if you were fighting anything with (censored), you had to do most of the damage.

No, what sucks is that level 50 pets are FAR more useless than a novice TKA.

The best thing about getting CH 0002 is that now I can group my pets and give a groupable pet to my hunting partner. Between our droids and those pets, my SL xp will effectively double Not sure if it is worth going to 0004 to get that extra pet to group with. It is fun having something else to do when a baby pops from a lair, besides in, the past, going "booo, just a low xp baby".
