Last night I bought a razor cat on a vender to fight a boss mark I could not solo but after the sale was made I tried to call it and in the menu there was no option to call just tame. Is this a common practice to sell animals that can not be used ,for when I clicked on tame it said do not have the skill to tame or is it that they can only be tamed after the are bought. Now it is sitting in my inventory with no way to use it....

When you buy a BE Pet the option from the inventory is always Tame.
Once you have tamed the creature, in this case generated it from the deed, it appears in your datapad.

As for why you can't control it, perhaps its beyond your current abilities?
If its an old pre-cu be pet the system might be trying to auto-adjust its level to match it stats?

So, what CL is the cat and what CL can you control?

Are you a creature handler? If not, Non-CH's can only call and control pets up toCL10.

If you are a creature handler, you can verify what level of pets you can control by looking on your skills menu (ctrl+s) under "my skill mods" for max creature level.

I'll put it another way, are you a creature handler? If you not a creature handler you can't control pets that are over CL10. As for finding out what you can control - assuming your a creature handler, call up your skills screen and on the left hand side, the bottom panel are your skills mods. Look for Max Level of Pets.

Izog;

Is it safe to deduce from this last post of yours that you're not a creature handler? If that's the case then the biggest animal you can tame from a deed is CL10.

If you ARE a creature handler you ought to know already what you can tame unless you got there using a respec without researching it first. In that case, YOUR CL has nothing to do with it. Your skill level in Creature Handler is what determines what level of animal you can tame. Before anyone can tell you what CL you can tame, you need to tell us what your CH template looks like.

As an aside, even if you can't tame the critter, you can drop the deed in your house and the animal will appear there as a kind of decoration so it's not a complete waste for you.

So we agree then, either not a CH or a respec'er?

you can only use a pet CL10 or under, only a CH can use pets of a higher level.

No. If the pet is over level 10, even if you take it to a CH and have them tame it for you, you still will not be able to use it. If you look around, you can probably find a CH that would be willing to tame and train a CL10 or lower level pet for you.

Nope, only CL10 or less, regardless of where the pet came from.

The advantage of buying a CL10 pet from a creature handler is that a fully-trained pet would come with three or four special abilities that would help to make it a bit more powerful than its combat level might otherwise indicate. The equivalent BE pet will likely have a higher HAM and/or armor than the wild pet. You CAN buy a CL10 BE pet and then hand it to a Creature Handler to level it up and train it with special abilities. This would likely take a couple of hours so you'd have to compensate the Creature Handler appropriately.
