Have some questions if you have time to help a nooby out ) , Im looking for a large pet to tank some hi ham mobs but im worried about healing range , say i had a large pet is the targeting range longer ? for instance, I have major problems with some mobs at the 5 meter range but i need to heal at that range , if i have a larger pet will that increase my distance from my pets target?

When my pets get knocked down for some odd reason i get agro , which is bad, is there any kind of creature thatcant be knocked down ?

or am i subject to feeding my pet kd food , does that even work?

Getting my pets to hold agro seems random at best , there are timeseven when i have 2 pets on a mob they glom onto me no matter what i do , is there solid way to get my pets to grab agro , from myself , other players ?

I know peep are touchy about such things but if you have any storys or tips for a guy that plays with the same small group all the time and likes to do things they shouldnt be able to do with out exploiting , lol please tag this thread if you do!! If not theres gonna be 4 guys buying alot of armor weapons and buffs to figure it out ,

THANK YOU !!!!

I can answer one of your questions. The creature size does not increase your heal distance. 5m is too close, you can stand at least 8m away.

The reason you get agro is because while your pet is "down" you are outdamaging your pet. Always allow your pet to get in hits initially. The down side to this is you lose XP for what ever your side combat profession is. The up side? You should not catch agro.

LOL. You'll need buffs and armor anyway and the better your pets get the more you'll LOVE them.

hmm as far as knockdown goes it does happen, depends on what u r attacking, truth is i dont suffer from it much, you might try spamming ur attack command if pet goes down it works when force sensitives use pet calm on them.

i'l assume u have a melee combat skill since u need to stay close, or maybe thats just to heal pets but try this when attacking something

stay away from target something over 60m, send pet/pets in usually they will trigger the target before u r in the targets range. move in and attack and your target should stay focused on the pet while you move into range, if you are melee then make sure u stay behind pet and stay within ur max range for attacking.

if you have more than one target try this, find a ranged attack pet, hopefully you can call 2 pets its helpful. have one ranged pet in the 2. set them to guard before you move in (assuming you have that command)

to attack. ive noticed when pets r on guard and i have a ranged pet out when the mobs try and target me the pets automatically target them and since they are close to the target the majority of the time the mob redirects to the pet.

to set guard dont target anything (click an empty space on screen) say command and pets will guard you

im a rifleman so these tricks work most of the time for me. its not foolproof lol but works 90% of the time for me, hope this helps ya

good luck

oh i hardly ever where armor or get buffed, most of the time i wear bio clothes and use food for a lil boost in the mind. only time i buff/armor up is pvp and really hard stuff like deathwatch bunker, phase 3 captain quest ... lol

but armor is always good to have handy even as ch get some ubese at the least with high kinetic it has lower encuberance and you may find it useful at times

I know when I was a MSM I was always running unbuffed and unarmoredon Graul Mauler lairs.

I would send my level 49 rancor in, with light armor and high kenetic. He would start fighting both Maulers. Then I would come in and start uh...er....Hammering (no pun intended) on the mauler with my power hammer. I would use some specials, but not a lot.

Now as a rifleman, I carry my armor with me, but only the gloves, helm, chestplate and boots. Trying to find some low HAM ubese though, or padded. I do use buff foods, won won and swirl and of course the standard canepe and brandy.

well... i find that themacros I mentioned in my "leet creature handling 101" post keep dishing status effects and the pets never let mobs come near me while they are running, hence that is why I like the looping macros.

In melee, aggro is soley a function of distance. Whatever is closest gets aggro.

It does not always seem like this because of latency. If you use a posture change or knockdown on the target and make sure your pet is between you and the target, it will gain aggro. (Or as Pluto says, have it attack first.)

While a melee weapon is limited to 5 meters, specials go out to 10. Stand behind the pet and use specials. With practice, you can stand behind your pet and still be in auto-attack range as well.

One additional note: Creature MOBS always seem to attack the weakest first. Being weak will get you agro.

For example: If I send in two pets that are almost identical. The pet without armor gets agro. While the pet with armor will be the last to be attacked.

As was mentioned if you are weaker than your pet make sure you put it in between. Attacking first means you may not shake agro so easy.

The Guard command is useful for helping shake agro if you are Ranged. It seems to be effective as long as your pet hits. If the pet misses you may have trouble.
