Good morning everyone, I have real quick question that you guys might be able to help me out with. I am a Master Bio Engineer on Kettemoor, and have recently made a few pets with the Strong Poison special on them, since they seem to be fairly desirable. I am also working on Creature Handler, and recently acquired Taming 3, so I was eager to try out my new abilities.
The problem is, try as I might, I can't seem to get Strong Poison to stick. When I command my pet to use it, I get no notification in the combat window, no icon in the victims HAM window, no graphic, no nothing.
The only relevant clue I can give is that as of last night, the creature in question was only half grown - 15 out of 30. Does this have any effect whatsoever on the specials landing, or being available, or am I just completely missing something?
Any help would be appreciated.

Strong Poison is one of the specials that does not trigger on command

Also keep in mind for future reference that just because you make a pet with Strong Poison doesn't mean that it will have it when trained. That's another bug that you're at what I think is 50/50 for any special to actually make it onto the pet when you release it from its deed.

Ah, hah. So it wasn't just me, these commands aren't triggerable. Well then, that kind of lowers the value of that special then doesn't it? I believe, the special actually made it onto the tamed pet, because it actually shows up in the datapad view once tamed, unless, there is a display bug as well?

Just so you know ranged attacks and special attacks are flakey at best. Some do not work at all, some are hit and miss, and some can be made a little more reliable with macros. All in all, I do not use them.

My experience has been that if you have the pet trained to use the specials and you open combat with them they're more likely to work correctly.

All my BE pets show as having special attacks when they're in my datapad, but when I examine them the specials aren't there.
I'm a 0040 ranger so I can examine wild animals and see their special attacks.
I just got access to the special attack 1 command last night, and I haven't had the chance to use it yet.

I use an attack macro which has the pet follow the target then use special 1 then attack and about 3/4 of the time (before I couldn't call him) my CL44 BE woolamander would stun my target before I could.

My experience has been that strong poison is pretty worthless anyway. I have a BE pet with that and the strong diseas. Neither are what I would realy call strong. In PVP poison might be decent because it may be the only way for a pet to do much damage, but the disease is amazingly weak. In PVE the bleed is just too slight to make a difference.
I feel the best specials are....
Intimidate
Blind
Stun
Dizzy
Knock Down (havn't tested this yet)
Not sure what crippling strike and some of the others actualy do.

On my wild creatures I can get the poisons to stick about 70-80% of the time.
Gaping Spider Recluse - both Poison Spray and Strong Poison on command.
Toxic Merek Battlelord - Strong Poison
When I had my Arachne Warrior and Gaping Spider Hunter their poisons stuck most of the time also. I tend to check the combat queue to see if they hit or missed on the next attack or two, just to see which if that was the reason. My Screecher tends to hit his Plague Strike about 80% of the time, and it does stick everytime I command it if he hits on the next attack in the combat queue.

It definately makes a difference being only at level 15. It will stick more when it grows to level 30.

I have had no problem with baby level pets sticking their specials. Unless this is a BE thing. Just another thing to test out when I am bored. Good luck out there everyone.
