Thread: Just returned to CH, are my pets rubbish now?

What do CH's use these days?
70%+ composite armor, heavy doc buffs, and crates of vasarian brandy.
Like everyone else.
Our meatshields are not what they once were.

Would you mind if I put that in my sig? That's just insane giggle-bait.
I'm killing krayts, elders, anddark jedi knights solo fairly quickly. The "nerfs" balanced the class very nicely and as long as you can intimidate for your pets on the higher end stuff they have no problem tanking.

I think he was talking about what pets they use, not what the character itself wears. But myself, I don't wear armor, I drink brandy, and swing a scythe. and no buffs, I've strived to not depend on them. My pets still mainly tank and if I don't get sloppy I can do quite well.
I still use my webmaster and mereks. My graul will probably become dog food soon cause its just takin up space. I made a nice puppy with light armor and resists. Nowadays BE pets are where its at, not only for higher stats, but because you can vary the levels to get a nice compliment for multi-pet callers. The other concern now is also small (in size, not CL) pets that can fight and not get in the way like grauls and rancors do, and make dungeon crawling much easier.
Also, beware of the pet centering itself on you whenever you move. Makes targetting almost impossible and makes it hard to see as well. I'm really thinking the devs got tired of seeing everyone with GSP's and made that particular pet rather annoying as well as weaker in all stats in order to thwart its use.

Wokka,
I should have used the sarcasm tags.
With nearly invulnerable armor and doc/chef buffs, CH no longer has a role in PvE play, where it once was prominent.
Meatshields are no longer either required or desirable.
You can pick up any combat skills and do much better than you will with animals. As a non-creature handler you can buy a CL10 animal with 10K HAM from a BE which makes novice CH completely pointless anyway. No skill points required. Here is a great example:
I copied this off the BE forum. I've been trying to get the message out that the new pet check doesn't work. It declares 2K HAM CL10 animals invalid and reduces their HAM to 900. Animals described above however work just fine. Its become a complete joke now and no seems overly concerned about it. BE's are posting their recipes forfreaks because the normals don't work anymore. I've stopped complaining about it. These are the animals I'll end up having to make. Want a nice cu pa?

Well, I'll agree that CH's are less desirable by many, but I'll hold that they still serve a great purpose, whether it is just to catch low level pets for your non-ch friends, or to provide a tank that will outlive any player in a big attack. Or to allow you to live by putting your pet on a creature and running, then calling the pet when you are far enough away. Pets don't charge you 8k to get them high ham and tank for you. They can also take any poison and disease and make light of it, whereas any player would have considerable downtime, but usually recover with the help of doctors and medics.
I still liked CH even when everyone called nerf. It's become part of all my characters and as others dabble in it, they find themselves wanting it more and more but not able to afford all the points for it. My pets save the lives of my friends without questioning me, and they save my hide too, lol.
