Currently I am finishing off learning all my L2 (have most L1) abilities and am going to start building my pets for actual use in the future. My plans are to have a group of 3 low 20's for killing easy stuff fast, 2 pets in mid 30's for harder encounters (bol missions and such), and my CL70 for the tough encounters. I am currently interested only in tamable pets in those level ranges. So tell me what you use? For example, right now I use:

3 pets: Female Crimson Razor Cat (23), quenker (26), rabid shauput (21)

2 pets: Nothing atm

1 pet: BE'd Zucca Boar or shear mite soldier (70)

Still loaded up with training pets... I wont have a permie pet for a while yet.

But don't get me wrong.. I am REALLY enjoying this new stuff. All professions ought to be the SAME as CH is now. Once you become a Master, your work just begins.

Weaponsmiths ought to have to become Master and then have to perform quests and such in order to learn some high-end schematics, etc.

Riflemen ought to have to do specialized quests to learn their specials. Pistoleers should have to do specialized quests from NPCs in order to learn their high-end specials. Etc.

Same for any profession. Then we will have fewer people hopping around to get the FOTM templates.

In all honesty, my most seriously used pet is my CL 69 gaping spider hunter, mainly because he can pull and pull well with his ranged attack and actually hold aggro for an extended period.

I'm thinking of playing with triplets (2 GSP and a CRC) once they've got a mess of specials trained, see how that works.

My 3 combo is still up in the air. My first choice was a Grand Wrix, Crimson Razor Cat, and GSP. Then I was thinking, since I deal damage myself, I would go with 2 Dragonets for the double ranged assault and mix it an enhanced close quarters pet.

My 2 combo I have no clue yet. Was hoping tocombo two great level 35 BE or wild pets. Maybe do a level 50/20 or 45/25 split for a test. Still unsure. I am stuck doing so much pet xp grinding that I can't even figure things out.

My 1 high level killing machine will most likely be a BE pet, Shear Mite Soldier (if I finally get one), or my Gaping Spider Hunter.

We will see...

I will most likely never useless than a two combo unless I am fighting something with an area attack.

Now that we can custom design pets, I have this little nothing-horned krevol who is loaded to the gills with states.

I combine him with my 30-levels as well as my heavy-hitter, and he goes in and whaps stuff without even being noticed, lol. He is such a help!

Thanks for the replies guys. I want to add another question based on some responses. Do you find that using 3 pets works very well against yellow con or higher creatures? The reason I ask is because even when I group with my 3 pets I find that I kill the mobs CL81+ (non-elite) much faster, but it is usually a race between the mob dying or my tank pet. Often I end up stealing aggro through healing my tank pet.

3 pets can do a lot of damage (relatively speaking), but like you pointed out, it's a race between which dies first, the mob or the pet - a race the mob always wins unless I tank for the pets. Eventually, I'll train my 3 cats with abilities that will increase their defense (vigorous health, etc), and that should help some. Though, I can't imagine they'll still be able to last very long against the higher level mobs unless I tank.

BTW, though I have pets that are my "real" pets, at the moment I'm still bogged down in the grind phase, so I really don't have pets that I actually "use" yet. Eventually, I'll begin using my "real" pets but am concentrating on learning as many abilities as I can. Slow, slow going, too.

Well for high level content solo, I would say tests depend on agro and being mobbed. Its also hard for a CH to pull out 3 pets when traveling with a group lair to lair. Alot of grind groups aint happy waiting 45 seconds for your 3 pets. Stupid timer rule!

As far as the combo 3, I would say to pump them with damage outpou if your template allows you to stick state attacks.

Between the crazy pet grind and endless bay hunting, this is what I have been testing and working on:

I am Master CH/Master Pistoleer/BH4040, so I can already dizzy, stun, stopping shot, and knockdown. I also use various weapons with PU's that reduce my SAC below 60, this allows me a large action bar to have fun with. Add Duelist Stance, Exo-waffers, and other goodies and your the hate-pulling-agro red headed step child.

The 3 combo I am testing now is a Grand Wrix and 2 Dragonets. My Grand Wrix came with Hunted Withdrawl level 1, and since I am the agro machine, my Wrix is never bothered. So, my Grand Wrix will be my close quarters team member. Improve him with Vigerous Health level 1, Marring Storm 1-3, & Percesion Strike level 1, etc.

Now you have 2 Dragonets, both of mine where tamed with Defensive Agility level 1. So since I will be the main agro target, my Dragonets can either be increase for damage for their ranged attack or I could load them with state attacks my template does not have. I think pumping them up with Marring Storm 1-3 would be best.

Any suggestions? What ideas is everyone else playing with?

As much as this new system sucks with all its work, the specials seem to have a positive side. I can only hope that SOE fixes pet food and allows us to carry more pets.

I still think that in PvP we will be wasted quick. On Scylla, if 20 people are fighting in Theed, no lie, 15 of them are Jedi. Its hard for a CH to hold his ground when we sacarfice so many skill points to only be as strong as the pet we use as long as that pet does not die.

I will say, I am very curious to see a Shear Mite Soldier with Think Skin 3, Marring Storm 3, and Vigerous Health 3 assaulting a player. Could be fun!

Presently, I have an Ancient Reptilian Flier with Aggro 3 that I use almost exclusively on high-level mobs. He tanks for me, I target him and use supporting fire while healing him with pet stims. Was taking out Singing Moutnain Clan Hunters last night with ease.

Second favorite atm is my trio of two Crimson Razors and one Grand Wrix. I've trained them with Bleed 2, Knockdown 1, and Imperiling Feint 1, and assigned all three attacks the same command - so when I send the command, they apply all their states simultanously. Worked great on Avatar - except for the blinkin area attacks that kept breaking them up.

Third favorite is whatever odd pet I might be using to learn skills from - right now? 2 Piket Longhorn babies. That's some funny stuff right there.
