Today I got a day off work. Gr8 I thought. The Missus is out, the kids are back at school. I can really build on my CH template.

I am already MCH, but collecting powers. So I set up outside Mos Eisley. Call a cl 23 giant dalyrake with staggering attack, a cl 12 elder gualama with combat agility, and a cl 1 kreetle with thick skin ( all lv 1 abilities ). Remained ungrouped so they got a bit of xp.

I set my macro off and running. rill and womp rats dropped like flies. I was not afk as I had to keep healing the baby kreetle.

After 3 hours none of them had given me any abilities

So I figured maybe we should be grouped , even tho with me as cl 80 none of them would gain any real xp.

So we grouped, and after another 4 hours , here I am fed up

7 hours wasted, thousands of low level pets strewn about Mos Eisley........

......... and NOT 1 SINGLE ABILITY TO SHOW FOR IT !!!!!!

Am I doing something wrong this week , cos it worked last week,

or is it a bug ???

or has ability gaining been nerfed somehow ???

and whats the solution ???

When CH was upgraded, I was really happy at the changes. Now I am not so sure.

I play this game to have fun, and I dont mind a bit of grinding to advance my characters

.........but this is getting silly

PS: ......Help ....??

The xp gain depends on your level not the pets If your an 80 and your pets are attacking lvl 70 and below targets you only get 1 point of xp another little factor they through in is if you are using more than 1 pet the total xp gain per target is devided between each pet and to make it worse if you help in any way the total xp is devided again to include you.

Theres no real viable way to macro ch anymore if your an 80 and your using a 70 pet on a 75-80 target your pet will be owned you have to help him out which means 50% of the xp will go to the pet and 50% will go to whatever weapon you used.

The only real viable way to get the full xp for a kill is to get with a group and have your pet get atleast 1 hit in on a target and let everyone else kill it, If you heal your pet on anyone else that is attacking a target that your pet has your xp will be split 50/50

If you have bacta toss then run a second macro to heal your baby kreetle.

/bactatoss (babykreetlesname); <-- include the parenthesis around the babies name
/pause 600;
/macro petheal;

You can try it with bacta shot but the range thing can be tricky and potentially deadly.

I have found grouping with other CH and doing misions pets ungrouped .And allow your petsto eatLairs after the last spawn.I only tap the lairs (3 spawn)with a low dmged weapon when it comes time for taping.No Jedi's in thisform of grouping as they want the lair for there self(Greed leads to the Dark Side).And if someone is out for Combat Exp. They will also take away from your pets gain.BUT LAIRS GIVE THE MOST EXP.

Out of curiousity, were your pets gaining xp during this time (even if it's only 1xp)? There's that bug where you don't get any pet / CH xp for a kill when using your pet because the game loses track of the fact that you're it's owner. If this happens, storing and recalling the pet clears everything up.

If the pets don't gain xp, then (I suspect) the game never does the "learn ability" roll to see if you obtain the ability.

My current theory is that the "learn ability" roll is done after every kill, regardless of the CL of the mob killed. In addition, you get a bonus to that roll for every maturity level the pet has gained. So (pulling numbers out of the air) you may have a 1% chance of learning an ability per kill at maturity level 1, a 2% chance at maturity level 2, 4% at ML 2, etc. As with any random process, thereare always those "can't win to save my life" stretches, which I think you may have run into.

I've got a Male Langlatch with Panicked Rage 2 that took me two or three days worth of playing (3-6 hours each) to learn its ability, and that's with gaining 2-3 maturity levels. Since I'm still working on my Master CH box, I was doing CL 75-ish missions on Dath, plus taking out wild Malcloc lairs and NS slaves as I came across them.

In answer to the question above, yes they were definately getting their 1xp , +300% group bonus per kill ( I cant say every kill in 7 hours but for the most of it.

Just keep at it I spose, and try for higher level MOBS, tho I dont fancy the cl1 kreetles chances even just tapping lairs.hehe

I red somewhere on forums that # of kills is the thing to get abilities out of pets , no matter wot u are killing, and that its random.... tbh I dont spent my time with this.... I leave my toon afk with macro running and kill CL 7 NPCs at a neverending spawn, as the time investment to get the abilities is insane.... sometimes u need 300 kills, another time 3000, actually my little CL4 beetle with thick skin 1 needed 3200 kills to unlock, while my CL 65 reptilian flyer needed around 100 for fleet food 2 and my giant wrix just around 30 for frenzied assault! ... most creatures seem to need 1000-1500 kills, imagine u would do this in a grind group.... thats around 6-9 million CH xp for u lol.

I ever group my pets, use a loot macro, a heal self macro and a duellist stance macro as im BH.... and for sure the pet macro.... over the last three days this broguht me a fair bit of abilities and 1 million credits, as also a big ton of useless stuff to delete from my datapad,..... tho doesnt last as long as doing the kills manual

Well, that 1xp "floaty" could've just been for the medic xp you got from healing your kreetle. If my pets get bugged, after combat, I'd still get my weapon xp, but I didn't get any CH xp and the pets don't get any training xp.

And AFAIK, the training xp earned by your pets is not affected by how much damage they do. So if you took your kreetle against a CL 5 sevorrt, let it get in a hit, then you blow the sevorrt away, it should still get full xp. I've found using a /taunt ability to pull aggro at the beginning of combat helps when trying to level low CL pets. Same with lairs: if they get in a hit and you finish it off, they still get full training xp.

From what I have messed around with, pets when ungrouped, fighting mobs near their own level, will only get their full xp if they do 50% or more of the damage to the creature. Once it drops under half, you can blast away to help finish them off.

If your pets are grouped with you, they will get full xp so long as they hit the mob once, and the mob is a coloured con to your current level.

This is talking about the creatures actual xp gain towards maturity levels, not the CH xp gain you get from using them. I have also not noticed at all that xp is shared between your pets if you have more than one pet out and they are all ungrouped. Havent really tested it either tho. Pets when grouped with the CH however will all get full xp so long as they land a blow on the target.
