First I would like to say that I like pets and plan on keeping CH for a long time.
WellI just mastered CH last night by grindind at the geo caves andI gotta tell ya after playing with MCH for a night untill server log and reading these fourmsI must say I'mgreatly dissapointed.
After playingwith the profession from novice to masterfor a few days all the problems have become painfully clear. I know most of what I have to say has been said but it needs to be repeated untill the devs fix it.
I would also like to ask that the devs not add any new pets or pet models untill fixing the CH profession as it is now. Because adding a fewflashy pets will only temporalary please everyone and cause even more bugs then we will be right back on the boards complaining about the same stuff. And if they are currently working on some type of revamp for us can someone please clue us in on whatsbeing fixedand what they are doing.
Where to begin my rant....................
1. Pet kills dont give you imperial or reb fp.
2. My 1.5k Ham 40% resistance probot will in many cases do alot more damage and kill things quicker than my pets I know he outperforms my lvl 25my GSP butI havent had time to test him against my lvl 54 kimo
3. When 9.25 came out you made all the npc's andwild pets stronger and yet left player controled ones at the same level (Weak)
4. It takes my lvl 54 Kimolike 2 min to kill a single hurton. Please tell me I'M NOT the only one who sees a problem with this.
5. Pets have some serious clipping issues. A huge Kimo will get stuck on a speeder sizedrock following me but then is somehow able to walk through the roof of a cave leaving only its feet visible. not to mention pets spawning right over you head when you call themand the problems having 2 or more pets out brings.
And finally my last comment on the subject
6. After talking to several people Iunderstandwhy they NEEDED to nerf the Creature Handler profession, but the problem isthey didnt just nerf us they grabbed our nuts and us the hard way.
I know nearly every single post in this board has something negative to say about the CH profession but the thing is there just isnt a whole lot positive about it other than the fact that pets are cool.

I think part of the reason that you are disappointed with this profession and I love it is in yoursecond sentence. You ground out the CH levels at the geo cave. I can't imagine that was very amusing. I am not trying to be harsh but my take on CH is that you _dont_ take it to be the greatest, and you shouldn't take it without a complimenting combat profession. That having been said, I have enjoyed the levleling up to now (4-3-3-4) and I think it is because of the hunts I have been on. Silly things like me getting incapped by a bolle bolle stampede and watching my tusk cat "cringer" get in his last digs trying to save me

It is interesting seeing the different opinions that rage through the CH Forum. There are those that will drop it immediately and move on to the next grind, and there are those that will never drop it, even though they would like to try other things.
I am not trying to be a fanboy as I certainly recognize some of the problems with the Prof as it stands, but in many ways it is very rewarding also.
My basic take is, now that you are master, experiment and strategize. Use your pets to make up for what you lack, and vice versa. Since your pets will almost always be lacking in the raw damage output, use them for states, intimidates, stuns and tankingand pick up a damage based profession to complement them.
Whether you keep it or not - gratz on master

I too ground out the last half of CH at the Geo Cave. Made master on a wedesnday night, dropped it all friday to go Rifleman/Combat Medic (I was PvPing a lot). I now look back and realize what a chump I was. The most fun I had was hunting and catching new pets. I made many a friend just by training small pets for n00bs (<3 Kalian Sangaria) and I think now I might go back to CH. Start all over from scratch while I'm working my way up the Rifleman profession (Master Swordsman currently). I just don't know if I'm willing to let all my pets go... my poor fambas. My graul mauler that I tamed unbuffed and unarmored with the help of Archie (one of my fambas). I would love to catch some rare pets, got my eye on a Great Plains Stalker.
Not sure what to do. I'm not huge on PvP so having 2 combat professions is a bust. I don't like crafting. I enjoy hunting, so the logical choice is Ranger or CH. I tried Ranger and it was cool, but taming pets to call my own is that much cooler.
I'm going back!

Your reasoning is the same as mine. Being a CH _feels_ unique....or as close to unique as we can get in a game where everybody can do the same thing. I know I wouldn't be able to give it up. I think that my curiousity for other professions will eventually overwhelm me...but that is why they have other servers I would rather start completely from scratch than lose my boys!

I do enjoy the CH profession andI think pets are great (even if a bit underpowered ATM) but one of the main reasonsI got CH was because I wanted to get fp for JTL and finding out that you dont get FP for pet kills is a huge let down to me. I have almost mastered the arch profession as well but as it is now im 3343 arch 0042 pistoleer and a MCH which leaves me lacking in the combat area. Once i get the funds to master the arch profession im going to drop it and pick up TK or something like that to compensate for my pets.
Hmmmm on second though ill just drop everything but ch and start from stratch any suggestions?

hehe, be warned, every char I start on another server ends up with scout, just for the noob quests...then they start going up exploration just for terrain negotiation...then, since I already have one of the lines needed for CH I might as well get novice so I can ride a female kaadu...then again, I'm getting all this CH xp...if you love the profession you can't escape that easy hehe...

Joker,
I can't believe any fan of CH would not like Master Rifle/Master CH/rest medic.
Don't get discouraged by the slow going in early rifles....once you get your first AOE you will _fly_ through the rest with your pets to tank.

As a 0/1/0/1 novice CH myself I can definitely relate to your approach and funny thing is I just found and tamed a peko peko last night as well I don't have a mount yet and I'm frustrated that I won't be able to train anything as a mount for a long time. I know I can buy one from someone else, but I'm weird about my pets... kinda like doing it all on my own I guess hehehe.

Yeah shadowplay at first I wanted to train all my mounts myself too, but then I decided that as long as I had trained the pets first, it would be ok to get someone else to train them to be a mount for me.
I haven't paid any money for my mounts. I just do a search for creature handlers and everyone I have talked to have been very happy to train the mount for me.

Ya know... I think I can live with that logic! I'll have to keep that in mind and just have some of my own pets mount trained by someone else

Join the BEAST guild and transfer the pets you want to keep to guild members willing and able to store them for you while you regrind.
More painful but you don't have to wait to join and get to know the people that will hold your pets is to get a 2nd account and train up to hold the ones you want most then train yourself up. Requires access to 2 computers too. Not an easy task thus more painful.

Exactly what I'm thinking of doing. It'll be the third time I've started CH and the third time I've started Rifle. Go me!

I have also really enjoyed the Creature Handler profession. I just started it two weeks agoand am 0/1/1/1. I obviously haven't been focusing on the grind, but more on the experience and finding those new pets. I think the most exciting times I have had on galaxies is when I am out doing missions and I come accross a new baby. I carefully store my Male Kaduu who gets me everywhere. (who needs speeders??) Then I caustiously approach the baby, the whole time hoping that I will be able to tame it. Sometimes it is a let down when I realize I am not high enough to tame it yet, but then I just remember that eventually I will be able too and that bigger and better pets await me. Yesterday was awesome when I was on naboo and saw a peko peko baby. I was instantly excited but new that I probably wouldn't be able to tame him because of how big they are. But I could!! GhostChicken is now one of my favorite pets and I can't wait to pull him out in a big city and watch the crowds scatter.
