Thread: CH is a Poor combat profession
CH is not a combat profession.
It can be a usefulcomplement to any other profession in terms of survival outdoors, but I doubt it was ever intended to be an elite combat profession like Rifleman or TK etc.
it's a fun profession which is an excellent complement to a combat profession, or for outdoor survival - a bit like Ranger I guess ...... no real purpose in the grand scheme of this game, but fun to play. My Alt. is an ex master ranger and is now a novice CH after seeing the fun my brother and my girlfriend have had with the profession.
I am doing it because it looks fun, interesting and challenging, and helps me when soloing missions.
Offhand I can't think of any other professions which don't have a 'point' i.e. other professions are not dependent on it - although BEs are dependent on CH to train creatures I guess ......
so I don't expect to make money out of being a CH, or own anyone in PvP - my alt. is a master pistoleer to attempt those things.
The problem with CH is as TH said; you make your own group. As I was working on BH investigation line with very low weapons skills, and a few boxes of CH, I could really see how pets added to my power. Without a pet, the mark was very difficult to take out, some could even one shot kill me. With my pet Nargarlatch, I'd send it in to keep my target busy and I could fire at will with no threat ever to myself. This is what makes a pet so powerful is the ability to tank, some of which was nerfed in an earlier patch.
In PvP all smart players know you kill the master and ignore the pet. This is true in other games as well. DAoC has had trouble balancing pet classes, and SWG is even harder because you don't have set in stone classess, but just skills that people can use to dabble in.
Players in PvP right now are a bit out of control with buffs, 80% composite, food, spice, and stacked defenses. My guess is that changes will happen to reduce a bit of the defense. I know the devs have some vision of combat and right now we aren't there yet. It might be easier to change the players and increase pets a bit in the future, than making changes now and nerfing them again.
