I was scouring the boards earlier reading about some of the rare tamables and decided it was time to try and find my first one. I had every intention on searching for an Arachne Widow, but ended up with something completely different.
My initial place to started searching for a the widow was at around pos3600, neg4200 on Endor, right by the research outpost. According to what I read in Tivo's post about his taming of a widow, and a few other waypoints I collected, that seemed to be the common place to go. And I recalled seeing some of them there while sampling with my BE character.
Anyway...off I went, searching all over the place, and never saw a single widow or queen. Bah! I knew this was only my first evening of searching, but I was very disappointed (although not surprised) not to see anything, especially after seeing many widows and queens while sampling. Of course, you can't actually find something when you're determined to find it!
Pretty soon the server was going to reset for the night, so I decided I'd keep looking after that happened. As an American playing on a European server, this is been very advantageous in the past, and it definitely was tonight. Server came back up, I quickly logged in, and once again was disappointed! No widows and queens!
BUT...I found myself a nest with two screechers by it. "Hmm..." I thought to myself. Not in the mood to actually fight them, I decided I'd do the ole "shoot the nest, watch what spawns, and reset the nest if necessary by running away for a little bit" strategy. Well with the thick population of other hostiles nearby, I discovered in my many times of retreating that there were a total of 4 screecher nests within about 800m of each other. And so I began just going 'round and 'round, shooting at them, and cruising away.
Finally, after about an hourand a halfof doing this I got a baby to spawn on the first nest I spotted. "Yes!" I exclaimed, as I found a safe place to mask scent. Then as I returned to the spot where I knew the baby was, I was sickened by the sound of firearms being shot at something...the baby and it's parents! Argh! After giving the stormpoopers a piece of my mind, I started again. This time it was no more than 20 minutes before the same nest spawned another baby. And as luck would have it, I was able to attempt a tame. But of course it wouldn't be so easy! I failed and drew agro from the little screecher, and retreated right into a recently dispatched pack of stormpoopers! NOOOO!!!
So, back on my speeder, and a few more rounds later, I spotted 2 red dots and a yellow dot hugging one of the reds as I approach one of the other nests. Another baby! After calming down, masking scent, and moving in, I tamed it after one failure! Woohoo!
I know it wasn't the "traditional" way of getting one, but it worked. I just didn't have the ambition to keep killing screechers, and this was pretty ideal since it was possible to continuously reset the nests.
I still have the waypoints for the nests if anyone wants me to posts them, but all of them were southeast of the Research Outpost. The only other potential helpful information I can think of is that I never took more than one quick shot at a nest. The two times I triggered a baby to spawn it was by shooting at a nest that had full health. Also, the nest that spawned the 2 babies was one that spawned 2screechers each time it reset. The nest where I got the successful tame was one that spawned 3 screechers when it reset. I think that's all of the useful info...if you have questions, ask away. I'll try to answer the best I can.

What *are* the rares? I didn't see it in the FAQ. Obviously the bull rancor.
