Thread: Gaping Spider Recluse? Information on usefulness, anyone?

I ran across a Gaping Spider Recluse (baby) tonight. I didn't think much of it until I examined it as I flew by.
Special Attack 1: Poison Spray

Special Attack 2: Strong Poison

HAM 10500 with a .46 to hit and 390-490 damage at 2.0 speed and all at CL44

I have not heard much about these guys before. I checked out SWGcreatures.com and according to them it is not all that rare. So what I am asking is, "Do any of you have one?, and if you do, what do you think of them?"

I gave up one of my 5 mounts to get him, (not a hard choice).

Since he is not all that rare, according to SWGcreatures, I am thinking of having him out for backup when Overt, or when doing a little PvP. How often does he use his Specials on command? How much of a tick does he do when he lands the Poison Spray versus the Strong Poison? Is the Spray equivalent to a Medium Poison which I believe my Gaping Spider Hunter has?

Thanks for your time,

If you want to see it, I will provide a link to a screenie I took. I just don't have a lot of bandwidth on this server, and at this time, I don't want to sign up for Imagedump. But if you want a screenie I will provide the link.

I didn't know that wild crestures are still used, thought BEs make all the useful pets.

Well, they just recently made it tamable again didn't they? Wasn't it on the list of "extinct" babies that got put back in to the game?

It's deffinatly a pretty good pet!

However: you have to think about taht poison spray ability. It could make your life a pain when you're trying to kill just 1 creature from a non-social creature lair. You mean to hit just the 1, but the Poison spray is an area effect attack, so it hits maybe 2 more creatures. Basically you might end up with more than you can handle.

Just a thought.

I have a recluse - think it's a great pet. It's not rare but many of the best pets aren't rare. I haven't had any probs yet with it's poison spray causing multiple creatures to go aggro. I don't do much PvP and haven't used it in that capacity, so not really sure of its strong poison vs. poison spray damage. Poison isn't all that beneficial in PvE because you kill the creature by other means long before the poison has any real effect. Still, the recluse is definitely a keeper IMO.

i have one that i use pretty frequently. i like it because its CL44 so i can have it an a boar wolf outto guard at the same time. i've only had one time when it aggroed a nearbly mob with the poison spray. i'ma rifleman so my biggest complaint is when i'm soloing a lair i /prone at the ideal range from the mob and then send it in. but it doesn't run up on the mob it uses its ranged attack a few times first which draws the mob nearer to me and out of ideal range. other than that itsa great tank with the light armor and its big and scary looking.

The gaping recluse is one of the best wild pets available. Other than specials and 10% higher heat resistance, it is almost identical to gaping hunters.

While hard to find in the wild, you can get missions for them. Once you find a spawn, babies are common. I have gotten two from one spawn on several occassions.

The poison spray does 100 damage a tick to an intially random pool. It is area effect and unlike other poison attacks, will work on command. If it manages to get the strong poison to go off, 110 a tick, they will stack. Additionally it has a ranged attack.

I think it's a pretty good pet by the stats and comparing it with others on SWGcreatures. The gaping spider queen may also be good.

Anybody know what lair type spawns the queens and what the payout for the recluse missions is?

Thanks, and also thanks for the thought on the Spray. Currently my Screecher hits the area with Plague on command, and so far I don't get too much extra agro from it. Also, most creatures I take on nowadays are social. It has been long time since I took on a non social lair.

Thanks again

True poison isn't all that beneficial if you have a high combat skill. When I was MCH/MRanger, Poison did help out depending on how hight of HAM the creature had.

Now I have dropped Ranger and am going for Rifleman, and the only thing that poison helps with is when agroed by more than 4 and you can't get them in line for an area shot. Poison is good for my pet to hold his own until I can get back to help him.

Thanks for the post and I am keeping him, right next to my Gaping Hunter.

Umm.....

CH is more than just fighting with your pets. It is part "Thrill of the hunt". Searching for and taming pets is an important aspect of this profession for many of us. But to each his own.

Fighting with your pets is like a bonding experience. Knowing they will be there when you need them, ready to die to protect you.

I agree on the CL44 part. I like using my TMB with my Boar Wolf or my Gaping Spider Hunter with my Boar Wolf. I guess my Boar Wolf just got a new playmate.

Just my 2 cents but I think you made a good choice Zonjai in giving up one of your mounts to get it.

Congrats
