I have decided to return to SWG (because I found all the other new MMORPG's to be incredibly mind-numbing), and I was wondering if I should get MCH, or doctor. I love pets, but if they cant TANK effectively anymore, I would rather keep my master doc tag and buff myself, because though I love pets, I refuse to play a broken profession (anymore).
So, can pets still tank effectively at master level, against other monsters (AKA: Non NPC)?
Thanks for taking the time to read this

do you want the short answer or the long answer?
short answer is no.
long answer involves going into damage/armor/resist ratios and what animal you're using and what you're trying to use it against, and why it's a bad idea to use it against said target, and all that other boring stuff that still generally ends with no.

He said it all.
CH is a trophy profession sadly. Now with NPCs having most of their specials back, pets get -cked faster then a hooker at a frat party.
Unless resist are returned before SOE unleashed Uncle Nerfington on us back in december...ch will be nothing

I have to agree.
The pets just aren't serious tanks anymore, not nearly as serious as I can be fully armored and buffed.
The secondary buffs make a tremendous difference; even with full armor on, my H and A bars come back fast, which means that spamming specials is trivial now. Carbines no longer have the very steep tradeoff between maintaining your A pool and spamming those state effect specials.
You can be a master doctor and have some CH, but it won't be for the serious pets; the best you can do is is get to perhaps CL 30, and you've got to have a combat prof, either ranged or melee, to deal significant damage. CH alone doesn't cut it, not when you can dish out 1000 point damage as a novice TK with VKs equipped.
