Thread: Retired CH, thinking of coming back

I used to be a CH, and I had alot of fun. Then the big creature nerf came along, and I dropped CH to Hologrind (seemingly unrelated, but the nerf gave me the excuse I needed to move on). My question is can I still PvE with Pets? I might dabble in PvP from time to time, but mostly I want to hunt (and maybe be BE at the same time - so not alot of real combat skill). I would like to visit cool places like DW bunker, corvettes, and maybe the occasional forray into the nightsister cave.

Is this gonna work, or are the people (NPCs)gonna ignore my pets and gank the hell out of me?

y-.....um...quite honestly, for the current moment, i'd hold off on getting CH back if i were you unless you really really liked the animals themselves, more than the functionality CH provides.

Well, I like the creatures. And I am interested in BE, and want to be able to tame the pets that I make - but I don't want to be a total Gimp who cant access what little cool content is in the game.

Hmm, I wonder how CH would do as a proffession to grind out my FS slot

I've been CH for a good year and I've endured the nerf. I've done my research, dabbled in profs with CH, and come to the conclusion that CH is as valid and useful as any other prof. It also gives purpose to hunts out in the wild b/c you never know what kind of baby you might come across. ^_^ You'd also be surprised that, if combined with the right combo, you can seriously screw over players in PVP. It took 12 rebels to drop me and my pets. LOL

Feast your eyes on this critter I just recently had made by a BE. He used insane mantigrue berserker DNA.

11k HAM

Light Armor

Blind and Dizzy Strike

400-450 damage

50 % Kinetic, Energy and Heat

100% Blast and Stun (HAHAHAHAH!)

20% acid and electricity

This bad boy screws over the 2 most commonly used weapons for PVP (and how many people examine your pets?)

I was also chatting with a friend who is Fencer/Sword/TK meditation and he was describing a horror story against a Master Creature Handler. The CH sent out 3 BE pets with dizzy and KD. Needless to say, my friend was seriously embarrassed when he couldn't get up off his sorry butt. LOL

What it comes down to, though, is: do you miss fighting with your creatures?

Alot of creature handlers surrender their skills b/c they never use their pets. I'm finally at the ideal template that allows you to dish out the damage AND fight alongside your pets. MCH/Rifle. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't use my pets out on the battlefield and that's what makes the difference for players. It's the interdependence that is master and pets that keeps the serious CHes from surrendering. In the end, the choice is yours. ^_^

i've had a pet made from that for months now. however, it's an extremely unbalancing pet in terms of certain pve scenarios which i will not go into, so i don't generally make it for the public.

and some of the info you're providing is incorrect. it would be blind and stun. and i doubt it would have easily topped 11k ham in all respects while keeping that damage level. trust me, i've made that particular animal type into a science. i'm positive your animal is short in at least one ham bar.

Well, for what its worth, I have a master Creature Handler who is also just half a box from master Ranger and the rest of my skills are in Medic 4,4,0,0 . It takes a looooong time to solo lairs, but its very doable. And I enjoy getting out and doing my own thing from time to time, so yes its possible. Just depends on how fast paced you want your gaming to be

Thanks for the replies. I was one of the ones who had my pets out all the time, and I'm not too concerned about killing lairs - what's the hurry, so I can go speed kill another lair?

One of my biggest concerns is that with CH and BE, I would be unable to PVP or PVE, and I am just not social enough to be a pure crafting character - I need to be able to hunt, and it sounds like I can.

Other than that, I have been a MDocter forever, and am almost a master Rifleman (for the PvE potential, I'm mostly dome with PvP until after the mythical combat balance), and even though I had fun as CH, and wanna try BE so I can make my own cool pets, its hard to give up such a useful combination of skills.

Actually, CH is a viable profession...when supplimented with another elite combat profession...

I have been a MCH for over a year. I can tell you for sure that a MCH/MBE will be totally useless against any but the lowest level MOBS. In PVP the CH will not do enough to matter and will be quickly incapped and DB'd. In PVE, without a combat profession, it is pretty useless also. It can take an hour to kill just one lair. Couple that with the fact that most creatures are social and you are going to be spending alot of time at the cloning center even on lower level creatures. The pet might tie up one of the MOBs but where do you think the other two or three are going to head? Yep, right for you. The dungeons will be out of the question for the same reason, even the lower level ones. The MCH/MBE I know are in it for the crafting. When they are sampling and get aggroed their basic stratagy is to sic the pets on the MOB and run like hell.

I like MCH but I am also a MTK. I have played MCH with Master Pistol and Rifle. It is a fun profession but not because of it's combat. If I want to docombat, I leave my pets in town. With the pet poofing, delays on calling and storing, and the host of other bugs, they are more trouble than they are worth in combat. Just get Buffed and a good set of armor and you can tank better without them.
