Thread: Is CH worth it if you can't master it?

Hello,

I have a new 2nd character in the game, and so far they serve well as surveying, harvesting, etc. Currently the character is master marksman/master scout/ and is 0040 in Ranger, and 0004 artisan. So here's the question...i eventually want to make the character master rifleman and may have to drop some ranger/scout skills to do that. How effective is the CH/Rifleman combo in PvE and PvP. Can you do some damage against krayts w/ this combo? Are there anyother recommendations for professions that work well? Thanks for your help in advance....

From my perspective Master CH is great for PvE. I know some on this board don't like BE pets but if you can pull out two or three strong BE pets you can walk Dath almost without fear. I haven't gone up against a Krayt but for Rancor's and anything lvl 70 or below BE tank pets are unbeatable.

I have been a Pistoleer 2-3-4-2/CH 2-3-2-3/Ranger 1-1-1-1/Novice Medicfor the last 6 months and have loved it. I have JUST the skills I want to pull a 32 lv creature, give it combat support and can walk anywhere in any world I want to practically.

Am I uber? No.

Am I having fun? Yes.

Sometimes I drop a box in one skill and raise another when i want to be more of a Pistoleer than CH or vice versa.

You do NOT have to be a Master to have fun at this game.

I think the real question should be, is CH worth it if you 'can' master it?

Seriously, though, it depends on what you want to do.

CH actually is a great secondary profession to accompany an Elite Combat profession for PvE.

Even if you can't master CH, I'd at least get myself to the ability to pull at least a CL30-35 Pet.

BE's can make some really good tanks in that CL range with Light Armor, Acceptable HAM and Resists in the high 50's if not better.

I primarily took it up for the adventure in finding and taming exotic pets and entertaining patrons in Coronet.

As MCH/ Master Rifleman, my pets and I are a lean, mean, PvEing machine.

Of course you could just go TKM, and be your own best tank (till the combat revamp).

sure why not??

get to where u can call a lvl 30-35 pet....get a BE to make you one that is better then any pet we can catch in the wild...and your set...you wont waste skill pts like the rest of us master trophy handlers...

now against pve??? hah pets and be pets are useless...there seems to be a nerf against pets in pvp for some reason.

example

today i was in coronet and supposedly still forced declared....so i was sitting there..had my lvl 54 BE pet, 11.3k ham, light armor, 54% kinetic resists.....sounds nice eh? well i had to go to bathroom, so i put up some spam and went....no less then 2 minutes later i come back and my pet and i are dead...some tard whakka decided to kill us while i was sitting there

make a long story short...i checked the combat queue...he DESTROYED that pet ...spinng rawl 2k+ damage....even with all those resist....the damage my pet did? ( my be pet hits whakka for 96 damage )

so hope that answers ur question.

1. horrible & laughable in pvp

2. works if you just solo... none of the new npcs added though or any type of high level monster ( aka worthy loot )

I have to agree with nimh on this. I rarely use a pet over lvl 35 and its kinda an old BE pet so its not that great. However it can tank just about everything I've gone after. Only thing I've had trouble with is things like giant dune kimos which I had no business tryin' to take on anyway.

The thing about BE pets is you really only get above level 35 bystacking lots of different resists - and in PvE you'll only really see kinetic damage, with some rare energy damage if you go fightingGCW enemies and such. With high kinetic and energy resists, and the rest vulnerable, you can get the highest HAMs and damage and armor ratings a BE can achieve, with a pair of good specials and maybe even ranged, and still come in below CL40. The only reason to masterCH would be so you could have a pair of these babies out at once =)

It depends on what you want to do with CH if you don't have the skillpoints to master it.

Prior to the December nerf, many people liked having a little CH to be able to own and control one greater sludge panther. I don't remember what you had to have, skilltree-wise, back then to be able to pull one out.

Now you have to have at least 2-2-1-2 or similar combination, I believe. It's been so long since I mastered it, maybe some of the newer Novice CHs can actually answer this one.

Aside from being able to control a few mid-level pets like the gsp, I don't really see a use for CH. I don't know many people aside from CHs themselves that use mounts anymore. The vehicles pretty much made them obselete (which is why I signed my name on the flying/special mounts thread )
