Thread: Rare Colors and Legacy Critters
- Grey, short mane
- Grey, long mane
- Dark grey, short mane
- Dark grey, long mane
- Pitch black, short mane
- Pitch black, long mane
Note, these all had exactly the same stats as one another, but a grey, short-maned mare went for about 30k, while a Pitch, long maned one could go for 10 million. Many other animals were like this as well, like Ostards (carrion spats are just ostards. Believe me). They came in yellow, brown, red, blue, green, and black. Each color had three shades, with the darker the color being the more rare, the washed-out version being the more common, and some colors more rare in general than others based on how well they could match armor, lol.
Implementing a wider color palate for wild animals (and please, lets keep stuff like this to CH's so we have something to go for, and not give it as an option to BE's, they already have their colors) is a relatively easy art fix, as is adding a variable for color. The variable is already there, since we see different basic shades already. But this is Star Wars, and the colors are BORING. We're talking alien creatures here, with alien diets and alien chemicals in their blood. They CAN have some very interesting variants, and some of them can be very rare.
For a simple one, take the cu pa and wasteland cu pa, which could have the same color scale. Have the color chances something like this:
- Red (the color they are now) 60% (50% of them washed out, 30% of them mid-colored, 20% dark red, shade variant same for all colors following)
- Sand colored 25%
- Grey 10% (this one would be middle grey through black)
- White 2% (light grey through white)
Face it, you know how much a snow white wasteland cu pa would be worth, with everyone begging for taun tauns. ![]()
This would only work if the colors were REAL colors, not the weak fades we have now. But think about it, all of the sudden we could get excited about finding a basic wrix again, if it was a color people would pay for. Make some cats striped, or spotted mutations. That GSP might not be worth much, but this matched pair of flame red ones is!
And the great thing is, they can increase the rarity trade not by retiring tamables, but by retiring colors. If a black graul mauler spawned for a couple of months and then stopped spawning, you know what the market would be like for them.
Thoughts, opinions?
If the colors are diffrent from the BE-Palette.. SURE !
Cool Idea.
But resonably, they can pin any love to any other prof except Jedi far behind JTL.

Somebody has used a Jedi mind trick on you BlindTyldark! ![]()

It came straight from Designer Oaks that there was no special coding for colour rarity. It only seemed that way eg. there were 48 different shades for a frenzied ostard, but people were usually only bothered about getting one either dark red or black. So if you were after a specific colour you had a 1 in 48 chance, but no colour was rarer than any other. ![]()
I like it. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of size and stat variation in wild pets either (not earth-shaking... just enough so all kusak stalkers aren't exact replicas of each other, etc). Keep the three equal HAM bars though... I like that. ![]()
But yeah, this would probably be something extremely low in priority. Like... almost as low as you can go (I'm still smarting after hearing winged mounts got blown out of the sky at FanFest
)
I like the idea, something to spice up the hunts, and give us a little variety.
I have always wanted some mini versions of some animals, even a 2 day old Mantigrue would be nice to have, maybe only cl14 or one of the those small Banthas at cl8 (not able to be mounted though). They already have the models in game as our creatures grow day to day. I don't care if this is a BE or CH (or better both) ability. I know people have asked to stunt the growth before, but come one the models are already in game. Sorry off topic.
I like the idea of varying colors (not shades) of creatures.
This seems to be in the game now.
My gurreck, or so I've been told, is a color that can't be found in the wild anymore, making it quite collectable. A friend DESPERATELY wanted to aquire my gurreck, but Nikita isn't some Grunda painting or a throw rug...he's one of my children.
I'd like to see that introduced.

I like it. I don't have much to add but Ithinkthe concept of colour rarity is pretty neat.
I would love to have a pitch black cu pa.
Cheers,
