Thread: Combat Profession and Master Creature Handler Help

hey, i'm currently a master CH/master BE on Intrepid. recently i've gotten pretty tired of only having ranged shot and dying so easily. i've decided to drop master BE and take up a combat profession. first question: what ranged combat profession goes best with CH? i've heard rifleman is good but really don't know much else. i haven't had a combat profession since before the combat upgrade so i'm new to all those specials and stuff. any good templates you've had success with? second question: should i wait until Patch 19 before respec'ing? i know that is gonna have some major impact on pets. hopefully it will revive both CH and BE. anyone know when that patch will be out? is it on test center yet? any help on this difficult matter would be greatly appreciated.

The way the patch stands right now, it makes no improvements on our profession and creates at least one major bug (that I know of). Yes, it is on test center now.


In no way are any of the current problems/bugs fixed ( /pointto discussion threads - yeah, all those things are staying in so far). However, now pets have a level of 1(0) (or 0(1)? can't remember) and a health of 10. Basically, this means that, as an MCH/MBH, I basically have no second profession because it has been destroyed.


But who knows? The devs may or may not fix it before the publish goes live. I'd suggest waiting; after all, you never know, maybe they'll actually fix some of the problems before they create them, instead of telling us they have no timeline for fixing them after they've been created.


If the problem persists and you want out of this profession, BH is a good, standalone profession as long as you don't plan on hunting high-level Jedi by yourself (if you want that, respec to MBH/MRifles). I don't hunt Jedi myself, CH is just too weak. Rifleman also goes well with pets because theoretically if your pet attacks a mob for long enough, it will hold the hate when you start shooting.

i was MCH/MRifleman before cu - i respecced to MCH/MPistoleer BH0044 after cu.

with the pistoleer specials i m increasing the damage my pets do (warning shot) and reducing the damage my pets take (blind, stun, dizzy, intimidate). this enables my pets to tank easily. after the states i can use my high damage shots (bodyshot + quickdraw combo is very fast and very high on dps) - and if the tanking breaks and the target is coming for me, i have knockdown and especially rooting shots to keep it away long enough to finish it.

Pistoleer will probably be best - if you outdamage your pets you will draw aggro, so best to apply the states from pistols and let your pets have all the fun

I am just copying my response to a question that was on the Carbine forum. They had asked if they should go with Master Pistoleer or Carbineer with CH.



I would go with Carbines for the extra range. I am a MCH and 2/4/4/0 Carbineer (soon to be 4/4/4/0) and it works great. I stand about 50m from my target and send in the pet. After my pet takes the targets health down to about 3/4 I open up with Improved Charge Shot to knock them down, then Improved Leg Shot and Improved Crippling Shot. I can usually kill the target before they ever get to me. And I also find that Carbines are better then Rifles for this use because if the target does close the gap you don't have the heavy accuracy penalty for the short range fighting.

pets go in u take cover conceal shot them till dead or u use KD shot from BH and use sniper shot the damamge is imense u take the agro but u have ure pet snaping atteir heels




SWG in a nutshell
SWG is like a big hill, you spend ages going up it and then find you cannot even go over the top

I was having the same doubt when I return to SWG recently. Between rifle, carbine and pistol, I can't decide which to go with full trees and which to dab.


After reading all the CH, RM, Carbine and Pistol forums for 2 weeks, I decided to go for MCH/MC/P0103, P0103 for stop regen and root specials. I've quite comfortable with this template now, though I once thinking of BH0404 instead. At time I need to tank abit but vs any L80-83 mobs, I normally won't drop >50% hp by the time mob die, the most 1/3 or lesser which can be regen pretty fast by sitting or taking a stim-D. Most of the time I pull with pet, let it tank till mobs drop 10-20% and I start whacking full force with improved leg shot, advanced rapid fire and when mobs turn to me, I throw them a charge shot to KD them and finish them up with another extra dam improved leg shot followed by another advanced rapid fire if necessary.


Recently I even try using the same tactics with a pretty good dam 1000+ and low sac 88 laser rifle, the shooting is slightly slower but it hit harder, for lairs my crit hits increase from carbine 7k plus to 11k, I'm sure MR can do more but I like MC for it's variety of skills, since I solo alot.


One thing I notice abt stopping shot from Pxxx3, it doesn't last long and break pretty fast, esp for >CL80 mobs. I'm thinking if it's worth staying on or go BHx4x4 for higher dam to finish mobs faster.


Btw, I'm a soloist since I can't play long (I just login for short while with station access linked to my EQ2 acct). Ever since I came back, I haven't grp with anyone for hunt. Actually with just MCH/MC, u can solo pretty well with the KD, snare shots with pretty high dam shots which recharge fast. I think u can do the same with MP or MR too, sometimes u need to go with ya feeling and preference.
