I am working up to master ranger and rifleman. After that I will have 18 skill points left over, and I want to use them in CH. What I would like to know is what would be the best way to use those points? Which tree should I climb in order to get the most powerful pet I can that will help me the most? Thanks in advance.

The CH skill tree was redone last year to prevent this. There is no branch that gives you any benefits over the others. You start being able to control CL 12 non-aggressive pets. You get +2 for each box in the first two rows and +3 for the third row. You might want to think about going up the Training branch as this will increase the number of pets you can hold in your datapad. If my math is right, you could go 0300 and handle a CL 19 pet and store 10 pets. If you plan to use agro creatures, you would need + Taming Vicious BE clothes.

Your best bet is to use BE pets for non-CH and pick up medic skills.
First, BE's can make some crazy CL10 pets with HIGH HAM and RESISTS. While some may consider this an exploit, SOE has in no uncertain terms told us that they do not care about bugs. They created this system and since the mighty JTL takes preference over everything endorse the use of BE CL10 uber pets.
Secondly, you can heal a pet twice as fast with Stim B's and Pet stims. Not to mention you can heal yourself faster and better.
Lastly, CH is a broken profession. As stated above you can get more by not being CH and using these mutant BE pets. If SOE does not wish them to be in the game they will fix them. There is no reason at all to dabble CH. SOE made sure of that when they broke us.

I know that CH is the best profession right now, but it appeals to me. So I think I am going to try it first. And I don't have very many credits to buy one of those awesome BE pets anyways.
