Greetings,
As I sit here to write this I have tried three times today to bring myself to the point of logging into the game.
Everytime I get to the "play" button and cancel out.
I ask myself, Why am I going into the game?" What is there for me to do? I certainly want to be BH but to what point?
I wonder if there was some actual "Role Playing" going on in the game other than the unrelenting grind and the pwning of everyone in pvp, there might be a reason to go into the game.
But there isn't. People are still grinding, now they grind for Jedi, they go to all the POI's to get badges so they can go to Dath to the village to do missions to unlock a chosen FS tree in order to do what? Grind some more. There is no role playing, there is no reason to get a profession, the direction of the game has been lost and I am beginning to feel lost in the reason to play the game. It isn't fun to be at your guild city and there be no one there because they are all off grinding another profession.
There is no role playing in a role playing game. No idea what a wookie is or should be or the role of the twi'leks or humans. Or anything it's just grind grind grind.
Somehow SOE needs to bring the "RolePlaying" back into MMORPG.

I stop playing for awhile when I get like that. All I do is look for a f**king Bull Rancor baby anytime I log in anyways. 10 months of doing that. It's pretty pathetic. But you know what? There isn't much else to do that I haven't already done...

If I could even log in ATM I would be all for a massive CH fourm get together on TC or something and go Krayt Hunting with only pets. Prefferably everyone would get 3 lvl 22 durni. I would love to see a Krayt get pwned by a swarm on durni

For the most part, I roleplay 90% of the time on line. And I try to hunt down roleplayers. I found quite a few on the Intrepid server, mainly things to Moya'. These are the people that are fun to hang with. These guys roleplay so much that they have even gone as far as to set up an off site forum to roleplay. Let me tell ya, it's fun. It all depends on the type of people that you have around. Some servers have lots of rp, some don't. If you ever get a wild hair, come to the Intrepid server, I'll introduce ya to a few.

I have problems at times in game with what to do next. That's when I usually pick up one of my alternate characters on another server and fiddle with something different for awhile.
I do agree there should be more roleplay, but of course people have to actually want to roleplay. I think all the players grinding don't really care about roleplay (or at least don't value it as highly).
There are actually a lot of quests in game and they do have some great stories. Even dungeons like the Warren and Geonosian Biolab have some great stories behind them. The problem I guess is once you've done these quests/dungeons once, you either can't repeat them at all or they begin to get old. Is more quests/dungeons the answer I wonder?
I'm thinking more single use quests and static dungeons (meaning dungeons where the same mobs spawn in the same spot) aren't really the answer. What we need is more dynamic and replayable content, which I think is pretty hard to do.
I think the Devs have been getting better at content lately. Even the deathtrap ... err ... Corvette has a pretty neat story background with several different repeatable quests. The FS quests are another great adventure (xp grinding aside) and seem very well done.
The Devs have a heck of a challenge ahead of them. By architecting a game where it's reasonably easy to master a profession, the goal of the game becomes content and people eat through it pretty darn fast.

I agree with you Sky, mostly, however, its not all of SOEs fault this time..I know wierd isnt it? This is my spin on it, MMORPGs are played by two types of people, Role Players and gamers. Can you be both? Yes, by all means because I do consider myself both. I play Star Wars d20, and I still play D&D after 17 years...yes Im old, no age jokes. I am a roleplayer in ever sense. The problem comes from these little 5 year old power gamers who only see teh MMORPG as a new outlet to show how much better they are then the next 5 year old. As a role player, I can careless if you have master all classes twice and yoru now finishing up master jedi, guess what? YOU MISSED THE POINT OF THE GAME! I get asked all the time, why MCH, why not MRM/TKA or Swordsman, its so uber in pvp blah blah blah! Guess what... I dont care! Im not playing to be uber or to make myself feel better because I can beat down whoever ina friggin game just to get my butt handed to me in school. There is no way to RP with someone who has no clue how to define teh term Role Play. To a typical 'gamer' , Role Play means Final Fantasy x. Yea, ok, come here so I can strangle you with my fuzzy d20s that are hanging from my computer desk! SOE is a large part of all this as well, only because they dont do anything live anymore. They dont encourage the RP. The concept for SWG had incredible RP potential, but the complete lack of GM intervention in game leaves the players up to thier own devices. When I started EQover five years ago, Kunark ruled and Iksars were crawling out of the Emerald Jungle left and right and with them, GMs in game RPing with players coming up with events and specials and just silly fun stuff. No matter how lame it was, it still encouraged RP. Of course, that was a long time ago, and EQ is nothing but a shell of what it was and has no chance of ever being that again, but SWG on teh other hand, has a chance. I feel most players can and would RP if they were led into it. Most may feel dumb starting a RP conversation at risk of being labled with some old sterotype geek tag that will sit next to thier Guild tag. If your a Roleplayer, you know it already, so that is where it has to start. Gamers infest all MMORPGs and always will. Some will play nice with us, and other will be ignored by us in due time, but next time you log on, see what happens when you get into chracter. I expect it will be dissapointing at teh start, but eventually it will cach on. Those who aren't interested will move on, other who are interested will play back with you. Dont wait for the RP to come to you, you have to go to the RP.
I know this is long and is more of a rant, Im sorry, but being a long time RP'er its a touchy subject with me and I am disscouraged at the almost complete lack of Roleplaying in MMOROGs today, but its our world folks, we need to make it into what we want it to be.

My take on it?
XP!
Do you get XP points for finishing a quest? Nope, yet the game is absed around those xp points. You need them to level, to get new skills, to gain new abilities. Yet you get no XP for doing quests or RolePlaying. Heaven forbid you get XP for doing what the game was designed for.
My point being that when everything is based on that XP, a person is inclined do get that XP, not roleplay unless they are really hard core. I am a RL roleplayer, of star wars, and D&D. I still love the SWG game, although it does need the RPing added.
But the game is inadvertantly designed to be a grind.

Zelfin,
Excellent, that's it exactly, why did people do the dungeons, not because it led from one thing to another and certainly not because when you finished the quest you got XP, no they do them over and over and camp them for one thing, to get the XP from the MOBS.
This is a great idea. I know CoH uses the missions as a means of gaining greater xp and every mission is instanced. I like it a lot, great idea.

what trips me out is how teh word pwn is a first person shooter term. It has no place in a mmorpg where zero skill is involved, just stacked characters.
