Thread: Starting up CH

Just grabbed myself a 3rd account now and will be going Master Rifle, Master CH and was wondering what seems to be the best way to work up CH nowadays? I mastered CH once before but that was before the big Nerf when you would get 2 times the XP when using 2 pets. I'm not looking for mindless grinding (eg. Genosian Cave) or anything. AFK macros ... been there done that and not looking for that either.

I'm looking for in regards of what are the best pets to work with nowadays, what's the best to hunt with them. Do "People" stims sill work on pets etc ... Looked at the FAQ's and didn't see any of this answered that was recent.

Also any other tips you can prodvide would be nice

People stims still work on pets, yes. Having pet stims as well speeds the healing process.

Personally, I found using some BE pets helpful while I was moving up the skilltree. Depending on how fast you're gaining xp and skills, spending a lot of time trying to locate and tame a wild pet suitable for your level can be frustrating as by the time it finishes growing you could be ready for another skill (and a better pet). Using a BE pet saves you some hunting effort (although it is definitely rewarding as you reach the 4th tier skills and master to tame some of the higher CL wild pets!).

I didn't like it, but taming was a good way to get xp. Whenever I was bored with combat and needed a change, taming worked. The more commands you can train, the better the xp of course! It has always bothered me, however, that even a 4th tier CH can roam starter planets and train trivial wild creatures for xp yet if you go to a harder area, finding babies is harder, taming is harder, and the xp isn't really that much better.

As always in combat, the lower the CL of the pet you fight with the more xp you'll get.

Overall, the thing I found best (and you seem to be on top of this with not wanting to do afk macros, grinding, etc.) is to just take it slowly and enjoy it.

Thanks for the info.

What seems to be the better tree to start on first?

I've ground out way too many professions in my day and have started taking it easy in the last little while. I unlocked Jedi in 28 professions of grinding, then ground out to a Jedi Knight and realized grinding isn't playing. I've gone and played out a toon on my main account now that while he is a defense stacker I didn't grind it out, my 2nd account Is a Doctor/CM (BeenDoc for months and months now) and didn't grind out the CM part and I've enjoyed just "playing" the game instead of grinding out everything.

Toparaphrase a famous line "Stop and smell the roses". The game is so much more fun I've been finding.

I really couldnt agree more. CH is just one of those prefessions that you need to have a special mindset for. Going MRM is a reat choice, and my personal preferance , but the biggest issue you will run into is that you will sometimes kill a tagret before your pet can sink his little baby teeth into it. On the other hand, you have to take it out before it eats you cub/pup/small bug of a pet. Peko Peko are good for a CL 14 IMO. Im sure other will have there own opnion, but that is where the, do what feels right part comes in. And for tha love of all that is furry, invest in pet stims. I made that mistake for too long using standard Stim Bs and it would kill the cred-stick. Tryingto heal a 10k cat 500hps at a time bites, and 500 would be if I got lucky.

Best bet with rifleman/CH is tap the target from a prone position twice then send in 'spot'. See Spot run, see Spot chew on panicked rebel, headshot until head is removed from shoulders, see Spot proudly drag rebel head back to owner. Enjoy!

I agree about getting the petstims. If I remember correctly, the petstim C's I use heal for over 1k on all three HAM bars.

With tenacious I got the 4 first level boxes so I would have a decent number of commands to train. Now I am going up to at least Training 3 (gives you extra pet storage in your datapad). Once I have Training 3 I'll be able to control GSPs at level 25.

Then I plan on going to Management 3 to get the additional called pet, finish Training, then taming, the last Management box and finish with the Empathy line.

lol, You mean Imperial right? I'm thinking of using my def stacked toon to be the tank on big things when I'm taking them hunting. I have 3 machines that are SWG capable so I'll be running all 3 at a time. Are Pet Stims that much better than regular stims price/performance wise? With my 2nd toon being a Master Doc his stims hit around the 2K mark. Pet stims heal mind though as well don't they?

Is it possible (and does it actually work) if I buff the regen stats on pets as well?

Again, this is strictly a personal preferance, but I worked up the Training Tree I think it was, Empathy and such. I value the extra pet storage just so I can have pets for different occasions. Grant it, you 'll never be able to pull out areplacment pet

if your main pet drops in combat, but at least you will have spares you can use for teh next fight, if you cant heal him right away. Right out of the gate, thoguh, I went 1/1/1/1 just so I had a higher CL I could tame, that is the trick to it. Also spreding out like that, offers you more comands to teach your critters, so even on a catch and release run, you make 100xp (approx) per command taught on top of the 100ish xp you get for the Tame. My advice is start with Empathy for the storage, then work for 1/1/1/1, then step up to 1/2/1/1, 2/2/1/1 etc. Once you start taming vicious creatures at 2/2/1/1 , things start to open up and it gets much more interesting. Just give it time, and if you find a nitch you like and you find enjoyable, stick to it.

Dirty rebel but yes, Pet stims are easier to use. Like the above post said, they heal for 1k a stab and yes they do heal mind as well. yes pets are buffable, but Im not sure what kind of impact, if any pet stims will have on the pets buffs. When I have my cat buffed I was still lugging around crates of normal Stim Bs

Buffed pets are amazing tanks... only problem is, the buff goes away once you store, so buffing a catand driving around in a landspeederis your best bet (don't even THINK about buffing that level 69 kimo of yours )

personalyl i stuck to using wild pets (still dont have any be'd ones) wnhe i hit novice ch i was still working on my combat proff (at the time id reached the dizzy heights of unarmed 4 in brawler) and was still trying to get decend damage from myslef, i was living mostly on naboo at the time so i went kaadu hunting and got my first tame (female kaadu ovbisouly), Stupid is still with me and still get caleld for combat fomr time to time(yes ill evne use a novice ch petin a fight despite being close to master ch and master tk now)

while i waited for stupid to grow (named btw due to the number of ?'s i saw whiel trining her her first 3 commands) i huted thr newbie spawns outside theed, slowly boosting my skills and watching my first tame growing, occasionally joining a friend forsome lowish level missions after a week of hitting such lowish spanws stupid hit cl12, right time to up my hunting (i was tkn now) so i joined some friends on coro for my first sharnaff hunt (yes a female kaadu against naffs) xp was pretty good ad i had a great time (unbuffed as well)

my skills improved i tamed several critters including afemale tusk cat (this is where my typical stuff the odds lets see what happens attitude asserted itself) my cat was full grow so i joined a rancor group, xp fomr a tusk cat on rancors is amasing (14xx per rancor fomr what i remeber) and in a big gruop it is opssible to keep the cat alive as well (does help if you cna afford a buff which i couldnt, didnt even have fully ubese armour yet some of it was still mabari)

basically to try to get bakc onto my point if youve got enough patience to wait tohrugh your first pets rowth cycle its possible and a lot of fun to get through ch with wild tames hitting tough mobs in a large gorup will hlep a lot as the agro will only rarly go no your pet and with godo stims and some agro switching (taunt/rescue or just get th pet to run to you wihel osmene hits the mopb hard) the pet can survive (if your as badly equipped as i was the pet will prob live longer thna you if you foroget to check your own hams), so basically if your aftr speed get some be pets and grind awa,y if your after good xp and a fun time go wild tame your pets and use them, despite making multi chars and getting destracted my chs skills are still improving and everytiem i log in and use my pet si have a lot of fun, thier eall wild all tamed by me and every command they know i taught them, the secret to enjoying ch is the same as the secret to enjoying any proffession, have an interest in it and DON'T GRIND, its your choice though and you may find you have mroe fun griding to master tnhe starting to play, but you'll miss a great deal, i can still remeber the thrill of learing my first skill beyond novice, and although to a lesser degree i got that thrill every time i leanred a skill (and the first thing i did was check the web to see whati coudl tame now (thne usually go looking for at least eon of those new pets)

im 4424 atm, my most comon used pes are nut (skreeg warrior, cl28) arach(gaping spider hunter cl44), (graul and mauler(my twin graul maulers)) tie not my strongest pets (if you want to see seom of my best check the roll call thread) but they are fun to hunt with give em good xp and can hodl thier own as long as i keep an eye on them, even nut can join in wnhe i hunt rancors solo if im careful of his hams, altohugh usually i tnaking for my pets aginst the tougher stuff (adn why not, my hams regen, ive gotgodo defences better armour and mitigationsthey dont have these advantages but they can hple deal damage and hit specials to save me having to(and add effects i cant))

well, the taming will help you get higher vicious pets, but that can some what be aliviated with taming clothes.

If you go up training, you will get not only more storage, but training gives you more command, you get 3 commands for patrol and then 2 more commands for formations. That's 5 commands there, and if you fill all the level I boxes first, that would be a total for 12 commands to use for the other boxes.

I wouldn't bother with management, because ever sense they nerfed the xp for using 2 pets, it really ain't worth it.

Empathy, really has no use in my opinion, other than giving you higher CL pets.

lol the only reason i started ch was so i could train mounts then give/sell them to friends or players/ but i was noob cos u can only use lvl 10 or under. I took the xxx1 first because i was aiming for xxx4 lol, so dumb gave that idea up fast. and went for the storage line, x112 then x213, its handy having management 3 which gives u an extra pet out, because when i went to kill various lairs i would see babies and id have to store the pet i had out, cos of additional pet i could just tame and store then killlllll the rest. now im going for mount, yay! gonna be a pack master. oh ye and im not gonna bother with the taming side til last because i bought a +25 taming top for 35k. and the other fun thing is having 2 pets out at once doing synchronised tricks, funny with a dewback, a gurreck and a friends bantha, as with the friend command, they can tell ur pets to do tricks. such fun.
